Hi everyone,

 I just got off the phone with the customer service line of NCTE. I spoke to somebody named Jordan. I asked her questions about what was going on and she told me that none of the people answering phones are allowed to comment on the situation at this time as they are still being briefed.
She also told me that, though she could take my contact information, she was not able to record any comments at this time either.
In the grand tradition of organizing, I think one of the smartest things we can do as an organization right now is called for and collect signatures on the immediate dismissal of Emily Kirkpatrick.

It is my understanding that the full NCTE Executive Committee has NOT voted to dissolve CCCC. 

It is my understanding that the NCTE Executive Committee is meeting tomorrow when a single vague item about CCCC is on the agenda. That would be the time when such a vote could be taken.

It is therefore my understanding that *regardless* of what CCCC officers have been told, CCCC has NOT YET been dissolved. The Executive Committee would have to approve such a decision.

Given this understanding, I encourage all interested parties to please look at the list of NCTE Executive Committee members below, and if you know one or more of them, CONTACT THEM IMMEDIATELY.

Points you might consider sharing:

1. CCCC is a member conference of NCTE, much like the Whole Language group. When WLU got into trouble years ago, some callled for its dissolution. But NCTE did not dissolve WLU; we worked with them so as to help them. WLU is still an NCTE member conference today. That's what an ethic of care requires.

2. The NCTE College Section, which has apparently been identified as a substitute for CCCC, is a wonderful group currently led by Jonathan Bush, who is himself designing some terrific programming for that group. The NCTE College Section, however, is not a writing-specific group: it's a group for all college teachers and teacher-scholars--and I say this as the former Chair of the College Section who helped craft its mission statement, one still guiding the College Section today. By way of contrast, CCCC is a group dedicated to writing at the college level; it provides a home for teachers and scholars of writing, and a home for the discipline they have created over 7 decades. Given advancements in technologies, especially, AI, this group is more important than ever.

3. My understanding is that the CCCC officers were given a period of less than 2 months to provide a budget plan assuring sustainability; that's not enough time to make such a plan, nor to work with the CCCC Executive Committee to enact it. 

4. The Executive Director of NCTE is the Secretary Treasurer of CCCC. Unfortunately, she has not attended CCCC for at least two years and thus has not reported in person to CCCC members at the CCCC business meetings, My understanding is also that she has not provided detailed budgets to the CCCC officers. My assumption is that due diligence on the part of a Secretary Treasurer would entail such actions--attending meetings, providing specific financial information, and prudently guiding the organization. That was the standard when I was Chair of CCCC. I'm not sure how one could dissolve an organization that its own Treasurer Secretary failed to adequately serve. I am sure that the Executive Director can herself be directed to take up these actions.
