David Michael Lampton


David Michael Lampton is the Dean of the Faculty and Director of China Studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced Studies.  He is one of our country's noted Chinese scholars.  He has lived in the People's Republic of China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.  He was the founding director of the China Policy Program at the American Enterprise Institute and of the Chinese Studies Program at the Nixon Center and is the Senior International Advisor on China for Akin Gump, a major international law firm. He has testified before Senate and House committees, has been interviewed extensively by  Jim Lehrer, David Brinkley, Peter Jennings, Lou Dobbs, Charlie Rose, and Bill O'Reilly.  His articles have been published in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Time, and The New York Times. He has written over 16 books and monographs, most recently The Three Faces of Chinese Power: Might, Money and Minds.  He coauthored a 2001 book, Same Bed, Different Dreams: Managing U.S.-Chinese Relations 1989-2000 which was translated into Chinese by Chinese University of Hong Kong Press and distributed by the U.S. State Department to its posts in Chinese-speaking regions.
