I wanted to share to everyone my first experience with CCBC's Cyber Club and actually my first time meeting Casey O'Brien.

I was taking a course in N311 and noticed the banner. I asked my teacher about it, and he told me to email Casey O'Brien.
I had to find his email on CCBC's website but eventually I got a hold of him. I was in luck because the first meeting of the year was quickly approaching.

It was December (2009), and snowing outside. The meeting was actually a mini scrimmage at Towson University.
Coming into this I only had a Microsoft background, and admittedly I thought I knew a lot already.
Making my way into the classroom, I seen Towson and CCBC battling it out in a Capture the Flag competition.
I had no idea what anyone was doing, but was so excited to find out more.

I remember standing behind Justin Wray, a former CCBC Student, and now teacher (and also CCDC RedTeamer)
He had BackTrack up and I had no clue what it was or what any of them were doing, but I couldn't look away..

Later during "lunch" in the Towson Cafeteria I finally met the famous Casey O'Brien. We had a quick chat at the table.
I told him how I thought I knew alot but felt so lost watching these other guys. He grabbed a napkin and wrote down some things for me to look up.
To this day, I still have this napkin, infact, I framed it.

In less than 3 years, not only did I obtain a government job, but I am now working in Security.
I owe all my thanks to Casey O'Brien, the Cyber Club, and the other great teachers at CCBC.

Although Casey is moving onto bigger and better things, he has done so much for his students and his hard work will continue to give.
Now with Jeremy and Jesse, (and maybe even Justin), every member of the club has a great potential of success.

I wish Casey the best of luck on his new adventures, and I wish the best of luck to all the club members and students at CCBC!

Let's show to other schools that CCBC is the best. And let's do this for us for II pride for him who show us the way what security is. And I'm very positive that with Jesse and Jeremy we will see the dark side of the security which will help us to destroy all of the schools around us. Let's prove it that even we are the community college we can be at the same level as 4 year colleges.

Thank You Casey

When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to pursue Information Security.  I had three major goals in mind:

1.)  Be Really Awesome.  (Obviously, I accomplished that.)
2.)  Get some experience working with different technologies in the field.
3.)  Get a job in the security field.

As of last week, I can officially say I've done everything in that list.

I've been really Awesome since the start, that just can't be helped.  Casey knows that and I still have an email from him that says this.  :D

Being one of the original members of the Cyber Security Club has allowed me to work with numerous technologies.  Cisco, Mac, Linux, Windows, Snort, etc.  Casey had no problem getting us the equipment we needed to learn.

My first competition was a scrimmage at Towson University.  I was a Windows guy like Marvin but also had a Cisco background.  Being with these guys really helped me get somewhere in my career.  I am more well rounded because of the team now.

I recently accepted and started a new position at Sourcefire.  For those of you who don't know what that company is, they make SNORT, and IDS/IPS product amongst other products I am learning about.  I can clearly remember taking the IDS/IPS class and saying "Man, I never want to work with SNORT again."  Well, here I am today working with the company that made the product.  Lol.

Casey is the man.  Anybody who says otherwise is sadly mistaken.  I thank him for every success I've had in the past three years.

Thank you again, Casey.
