I recently got one of my servers up and running. over 400gb of storage, 2 intel dual-core processors with VTx.. 16gb of ram.
I'm running CentOS and using KVM as the hypervisor.

anyone else have their home lab set up yet? what VM are you running? what are you testing on?
I found this site useful for finding "insecure" and "vulnerable" operating systems..

Xen from Citrix allows for free 10 VMs and the free Xen server.

XenApp and XenDesktop are some serious maintenance, though.  The installation alone (At least with version 6 that I had at my last job) was enough to make you go mad.

I use the standard VMWare Workstation.  Apparently, 9 has just been released.  Still looking for a way to acquire a license for that.

Running it on a RedHat box w/ 16GB RAM and an AMD Phenom II X4 processor.  Hoping to up to 32GB and an AMD Phenom II X6 processor.  Got a domain controller, Exchange server, and DNS running windows.  IIS, another DNS server, and FTP on Linux.  Running an FTP on Mac OS X Lion, as well.  All of these are bridged to an ethernet adapter that is connected to my Cisco Router.

I've set up plenty in the past.  That's not an issue.  I was just posing my strong dislike for those Citrix products, as they aren't very easy to work with.

I prefer other methods of VM management.

It really depends on the background of the user i guess. Id definitely say its not as user friendly as vmware with esxi and vsphere with vmotion active, but as compared to 700 to 13000 dollars, the fully unlocked price tags fpr a standard enterprise is jaw dropping when comparing administrative to cost.

Shut ur ports and monitor what's coming and going analyze the packets and remember to check the logs. Put heavy duty passwords.
