Hi everyone,

Thanks to those who joined last week's virtual meet-up! You'll note that a recording of the session plus slides have been posted at Week 1 of the course.

Here is your reminder for Week 2, plus some logistics:

1) Weekly virtual meet-up

Thanks to everyone who filled out the Doodle poll. The winning time slot is Thursdays from 3-4pm US pacific time. This week we are going to try Google+ hangout, so if you plan on attending the session, please share your Google+ account email with me here or at this pad before it starts: http://pad.p2pu.org/p/cc4k12. You must have a Google account to participate in the hangout, so make sure to figure that out before Thursday if you plan on joining and you don't have a Google account. All hangouts will be recorded and posted for those who can't make it. If Google hangout doesn't work well this week, we'll try something else next week!

What we'll cover in the meetup this week: discuss and react to "Get CC Savy, Task 1" which you should have completed last week. I will also go over a brief history of CC and its role in education.

2) cc4k12 Wordpress blog

Part of your mission for this week is to blog about your class', colleagues', or friends' response to CC. You should all be enabled as authors at http://cc4k12.wordpress.com/ now. I tested it on my other email and I can post, so if you can't post, it likely means that you have not been added as an author yet. If this is the case, please share your WP username with me here so I can invite you to contribute!

3) Your mission for the week

is pretty simple. A lot of you completed it last week by going through all four tasks of the "Get CC Savvy" challenge. If you have some extra time, I highly suggest going through the "Additional resources" section, especially flipping through Shared Creations: Making Use of Creative Commons book which was recently published and is tailored for K-12 educators and their students. There are some quick and fun activities you can do with your students!

As always, if you have any questions, please post them in the Disqus forum for the week. You can also ask me any private questions by hitting reply here.

Best,
Jane

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to say that I've been very ill this week and lost my voice. We will have to postpone trying out Google+ hangout until next week (same time, and all details updated at the course website). However, I managed to dig up two recorded webinars from my past where I go over the history and context of Creative Commons as applied to open educational resources and the arts. I have posted the links to both recordings at Week 2. Though they are from a while ago, history has not changed, so please watch the one that sounds like it would be the most useful for you and respond with any questions in the forum, and I will answer them. Also feel free to post any other questions you had about Creative Commons as well, though I hope you will save the meat of your queries for your blog post at http://cc4k12.wordpress.com/ !

Don't forget to complete your mission for the week by this Sunday, and I look forward to out Google+ hangout next week!

Twitter list of participants: For those who haven't figured it out already, I've aggregated all course participants' Twitter handles at https://twitter.com/cc4k12/course-participants - you can simply follow the entire list to connect with your peers.

As always, I will be monitoring all related course forums, Wordpress, and this email to address any administrative questions you have as well.

Best,
Jane
