Happy Monday everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and had safe travels (Rob).  Happy belated Mother's Day to you Jen!

We accomplished a lot last week- thank you for your hard work!  This week requires an equal amount of effort- if not more!  Saturday is our first event- woohooo!!  :-)

Goals of the Week

  • Each of us should reach out to AT LEAST 10 people to donate and/or volunteer.  We want to push as much money and volunteers as we can for this weekend as this is our biggest event.
    • Our donation goal for the week is $300!!!  That is a huge goal but we can do it.  If we get 30 people to donate $10 each, we got it.  If we reach out to 60 people, we are just requiring half donate.
    • As we discussed during last week's call, individualized emails work the best.  I am specifically targeting people who care about health and nutrition because I know it could generate a bigger donation (hopefully).
    • Eventbrite link to include in email:  http://ccfoodasap.eventbrite.com/#
    • Share on social media as well- FB and Twitter- #Food_ASAP

  • Jean - please send an email to the CC TYP listserv on Wednesday.  Kezia sent one this morning and Jen sent us a draft on the email this weekend.

  • Chasity- please create the list of supplies and produce we need for Saturday.  I think this was already on your to-do list.  Please send by Wednesday.

  • Jen- where are we as far as securing the produce for Saturday?  Do we have to follow-up with the chef?

  • Rob- can you reach out to the Whole Foods here in Silver Spring about their Newsletter with the strawberry recipes?  I can pick them up.  If we can, get as many as possible (maybe 150).
I am going to reach out to as many people as possible about donations (50+) so I will be writing a lot of emails for Food ASAP this week :-).  #Focused

Is there anything I am missing?

I know we are meeting on Thursday but please send updates beforehand- time is limited.

I appreciate your hard work and want you to know our goal is very possible!!!  Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Hi Karla and team,

The DC Central Kitchen chef will be providing us the ingredients for the smoothies for Saturday’s event.  It will be delivered to Kelly Miller MS on Thursday.  I have to coordinate with the chef on the location.  OSSE will be providing us with talking points Friday and a PDF we can use as flyers.

Thanks Jen.  This is great information.  Can you let us know what ingredients they are providing?

Jean, I just thought about this. Did anyone follow-up with the soiree sign-ups to see if they can donate or volunteer?

WE HAVE 4 volunteers and $25 so far!  Go team!!!

I was thinking the same thing......we can target them specifically.

I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to do next...I'm supposed to" send an email to the CC-TYP"...is that the young philantropist list serv?  Is that the same one as the regular list serv?  If not, can anyone email it, or do you need special permission?

Also, do I come up with different words than the email that Kezia sent?
The good news about DC Centrl Kitchen donating is that we don't need to spend the money on food!

Hi Jean,

Great!  I think we should send those who signed up individual emails.

Yes, its the general listserv that all CC members receive.  Jen drafted a letter this weekend you can use.  We do want it to be different than Kezia's; she asked that we send something different.

The food is great news.  So we really only need to pay for supplies and the zip car- Like $130?

And we still have a team meeting on Thursday at my work place (free internet & printing!!!), correct?  7pm?  1 Dupont Circle, NW.

Or we can still meet at Panera's.

I will bring my small cooler (for Saturday), whatever Whole Foods recipe flyers I can get my hands on, and the magazine with strawberry recipes in it.

Team- Just another note I almost forgot.  :-)

I have invited a potential Cause team member (that's my team that currently only has one member- me) to join in our meeting.  He will just be there to listen and learn more about the planning meetings and how Capital Cause works.  I will do my best no to make it awkward :-)

Thanks Jen.

Are we still going to try to do parfaits, salad and a fruit salad? Just curious.

Also, that is a lot of smoothies. Will blenders be able to last that long? And am I the only one with a blender? I may be able to bring two.

No, I went with just smoothies.  It is 30X of a smoothie recipe I found online.  I can bring my blender too.

Hi Everyone,

I'm just getting back into the swing of things from being out of town. Thanks for finding the smoothie, Jen! I see its calls for milk, but do you all think would it be more sustainable to substitute it for a fruit juice? That way, we won't have to worry about milk going bad in the heat. Also, I don't think sugar will necessary because we'll have so much natural sugar from the fruit and the juice.

But here is a list of supplies that we may need for Saturday:

Mini plastic cups
about 10 packages of fresh strawberries
3-4 bunches of bananas
A gallon of orange juice (to substitute for the milk)
A  few bags of ice
Knives
Cutting board
Paper towels/hand rags

Am I missing anything? And I too have a blender I can donate to the event if necessary.

Thanks so much everyone!

Thanks Chasity for getting this list to us.  Can you quantify the cups- at least 500 right?

Hope you enjoyed Chi- welcome back!

Hey All,

It might be too late to get DC Central Kitchen to switch from milk to juice.  They are bringing our ingredients to Kelly Miller tomorrow.  The chef and I still have to touch base to coordinate where he is leaving the ingredients.  I imagine they’ll be in a refrigerator in the school’s kitchen.  We may have to bring our own juice if we want to use juice instead of milk.

Best,

Jen

In that case, then using milk is fine. My apologies for forgetting that important tidbit.

Hey guys-

Okay... so a friend I asked to donate earlier in the week just donated- so we are at $55 (gulp).  This should be plenty to cover the supplies.  Anything additional we can give to DC Central Kitchen.

Yeah, I think so.  I asked her to hold on the donation this morning but I guess my communication was not clear.  Extra mula works!  DCCK is giving us a lot so to give back to them would be awesome!

Hi again,

I checked in with the Brittany Hayes, the PR Director for Capital Cause, and she suggested the following (she also wished us lots of luck):

Yes, pictures would be great. It would be great if you could especially capture the setup and presentation of #Food_ASAP table as well as interactions with students, young philanthropists, etc.

In addition to using #Food_ASAP, you could also use some of our other main hashtags, #YoungPhilanthropists #Give4Good, where appropriate. Will the event have a hashtag? Also, tie in Capital Cause's Twitter handle (@capital_cause).
