I always find boat names interesting.  Here is the meaning of the name of the boat for sale in Midland Ontario.

This from Wikipedia:

• Andante – at a walking pace, moderately slow (56–108 bpm)
• Allegro – fast and bright (120–156 bpm)

That's a good story.  

Resolute's name came from the PO.  I'm a big fan of Hornblower and Jack Aubrey books and the name sounded like a good name for a fighting frigate.  Resolute was an Americas Cup defender in 1920.  So I decided I liked the name and kept it.  I had to be resolute to convince my wife we should buy the boat.  C

Well! I’ve got three for you.

2007, we purchased a Mirage 24 that I had been racing on. The owner decided to move up in size, so we decided (without my wife having any past experience on a sailboat) to by the boat. So we named it “ Outa the Blew”.

2008, we decided the boat was to small for any cruising, so we purchased a C&C 27-3. It required major work to the deck, recoring over 35 sq ft. We like unusual names and it took some time for this one, but my wife being French and the way it worked, we came up with “Oui R One”. Pronounced “We are One”.

In 2014, we purchased a Mirage 33 and kept the name calling it “Oui R One ll.

Pretty boring for us.

Well in 2019, we made the trek to the North Channel. For those that are not aware where this is, on a map search for Little Current and Gore Bay. The North side of Manitoulin Island is a great place to cruise to and there are endless places to anchor. We were gone for three weeks, with four days up and four days back to Windsor. My wife said during the trip, if we are going to do this, we need a different boat. We had someone at our club interested in our Mirage and it was sold before we got home. A member at our club has a 34+, so we knew the boat. We purchased ours in Niagara on the Lake, ironically where it built, in the fall of 2019. We kept the name for one year as Oui R One lll, but quickly changed it to”Kraken the Wine”. Some might think that it has to do with cracking the sheet lines but you would be wrong. Simple, I drink Kraken rum and she drinks Wine. We now cruise the the North Channel for up to five weeks.

Hi Tim, I wondered why you changed from Oui R One to Kraken the Wine. Now I know.  I would presume you performed proper renaming protocol in both cases.

When we purchased Cats Paws her original name was Paws as the owners were fond of dogs.  We had a few names in mind but hadn’t settled on any.  When we saw the custom cockpit cushions and fender covers with a paw mark embroidered on them, and then the huge asymmetric spinnaker with a beautiful paw and it’s extended claws we decided, as Maine Coon cat owners, it would be easier to just add the word Cat and call it a day.

Worked two ways.  Both a reference to the felines in our lives, and to the nautical spirit…

Cats Paws

1. to dupe someone to do your work or bidding.  (As in a dummy tack)

2. A RIPPLE caused by a light breeze on the water.

 

A nod to her new owners and her new name, RIPPLE!
