You are right. I don't have an anchor locker.
But my 8 foot long Selden pole extends to five feet beyond the headstay and is totally removable.
It is presently stored inside my boat in the aft cabin for winter. It also fits in the vee berth, or on deck.
I am very familiar with windsurfing masts and have broken my share of fiberglass masts. I still have several higher quality carbon masts, sails and boards for my wife and myself to enjoy blasting over the water, but alas, we got into wing foiling and the windsurfing toys remain home. I hope you added a lot of carbon to your sprit.
I encourage you to share your project and your methods as it can help others. I am jealous of the top down furler, but other owners have learned that a mast crane helps to extend the top swivel's attachment and keep it away from the jib top swivel, so both work better..
