Great Lakes North Channel

Good Morning All

My Wife and I travel to the North Channel each July. This year we will not get there til about the 15th. I looked at our list and noticed that there are up to nine boats that would be possible or already go up to the NC. If anyone has been thinking of going there or who already go up(Matt), let’s see if we came come together somewhere.

Good idea. We haven’t yet determined our dates - the boat will be there for about a month (my son will have it for part of that time). Will keep mod- end July in mind.

Tim, It’s on my bucket list, but I’m a long shot this summer. I only made it to the bottom of the st clair last summer; I’ll need more than a week off to go further; not sure of that this summer.

Hi Tim, Definitely hoping to make it to the NC this summer and that is about the time we usually head that way. Let me know if you are going to stop in Port Elgin on your way. Otherwise we'll hope to meet up somewhere.

Hi folks

Attached is a picture of my windlass and platform.

The platform will be through bolted, 3 on each side 3/8 th to nuts and washer after 9 * 1 1 /2 inch * 1/4 inch thick backing plates in V berth .

I plan on running the wires this week.

Summer is coming ;)

Hi All

Summer is upon us know. For those traveling to the Great Lakes North Channel, Kraken the Wine is planning on leaving Windsor on July 9th. With stops at Sarnia, Bayfield, Kincardine and Tobermory. Sorry Tom, Port Elgin doesn’t work. We hope to at anchor by the 14th, east of Little Current, at Heywood, Strawberry, Snug or somewhere.

Stargazer is expecting to depart Midland sometime around July 8 and will head to the north channel when the wind is blowing the right direction ;). Expect to be in the French River area (Bustards) in a week or so then on to the north Channel.

Hi Tim, Matt and other NC patrons, We will likely be a couple days behind you but hope to cross paths when we get there. When we are in range we usually check in with Roy, will likely drop the VI and just call in as Corsair. Look forward to meeting a few other boats and comparing notes.

Tom Sutton, Phil Lepage, Tim Aseltine - we have arrived in Killarney after a leisurely sail up from Midland.

I’m wondering what everyone’s plans are for the next couple of weeks - planning for a potential rendezvous.

Any others heading to the North Channel?

Hey Matt.

Great to hear you are up there. We have been delayed because timing and weather. The boat is packed and we will be leaving in the morning. Weather permitting we will be in Tobermory on the 17th. I have not heard from Steve in Alpena. Tom, I hope you have sorted out the boat and are ready to go.

The Eaton Cup fun race is on July 18 out of Little Current. Last year my son raced in it - it was a fun social event - BBQ after. It was light airs and one boat baked cookies and handed them to nearby boats! (Apparently the entry fee $30 includes BBQ and a night docking at town docks (the case last year not sure this year)

Weather permitting we are in.
