Independence Day!
Register early for the Tigerlily Foundation's 2nd Annual Pink Boa 5K Run/Walk, on Sunday, September 14 at Fairfax Corner. Tigerlily Foundation represents and supports thousands of young women nationwide who may have been or may be touched by breast cancer. Find out more here.
Last night we went to the Stars, Stripes & Startups Independence Day Party at the offices of 1776.
At the blow-out party, the hosts announced its next big initiative, The Challenge Cup: It will circle the globe across 16 cities looking for the best startups, then bring them to DC next May for a week-long festival to celebrate innovation, entrepreneurship, and big ideas. We snapped IO Sustainability's Steve Rochlin, USTR's Christina Sevilla, and Kelly Schwartz and her husband, Politico's Roy Schwartz.
There were Independence Day-themed drinks, bales of hay for chairs, fair games, BBQ, and music by the Doug Segree Band. Here, Tech Cocktail's Jen Consalvo and Frank Gruber with Cont3nt's Anton Gelman and Hailo's Chris McLellan.
Congrats to Troop ID, one of two DC-area startups competing for Wall Street Journal startup of the year. The top veteran-owned startup's co-founder Matt Thompson is with App Press' Minh Nguyen and Spinnakr's Michael Mayernick.
1776 cofounder Evan Burfield is with Yopine's Gary Michael Mendel and Tom DePasquale.

Young Philanthropists!
We went to the 3rd annual Young Philanthropists brunch hosted by Capital Cause at The Sphinx. It connected 300 DC trailblazers and change makers with 20 local industry leaders. We snapped Miss DC Bindhu Pamarthi, Deltek's Melissa Shaw, and Capital Cause co-founder Daya Washington.
Guests enjoyed a New Orleans brunch, with bottomless mimosas and sweet potato waffles. Here, Parsons' Monika Jones, City of Alexandria's John Chapman, and Urban League's Kendra Smith.
During brunch, the young philanthropists voted to award $1,000 to the DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. Here, Generation Next's Lateef Phoenix and Brandon McCollough are bookended by Georgetown Law student Ericka Aiken and City Parks Foundation's Daryl Garrett.
Founded in 2009, Capital Cause increases financial and skill-based contributions through collective giving. The organization's 5,000 members recently funded $20,000 in grants and donated $40,000 in skills. Here, Foley & Lardner's Lauren Champaign, Cadwalader's Kelly McNichols, and Allen & Overy's Georgina Owino.
