At one time or another most of us have agreed to or said, “Worship isn’t limited to the songs we sing before a weekend sermon.” I’ve personally written blogs about it. I’ve shared thoughts regarding this statement all across the country. However, some things are worth repeating. Imagine with me that we tell our child, spouse, friend, or pet for that matter, how much we love them. But, only on Monday morning. And by the way, there is a limit of just 22 minutes. Turn the lights down low. Light a candle. Play beautiful music. Bake a cake. Then leave the room and don’t say any of those caring, loving words until next Monday morning. How many weeks do you think we could keep anyone convinced of our adoration? What would our relationships look like a year later? Relationship?

I’m sure you get the point.

Music is a wonderful gift and we obviously use it to express our praise, thanksgiving and worship. But the ‘worship’ we are leading others in is deeper and bigger than those 22 minutes before a weekend message. Worship through music is an opportunity to express exuberant praise resulting from our relationship spilling over. On the other hand, our relationship doesn’t receive its growth from the results of a few minutes of musical worship. Consistency and honesty and ‘in spirit and in truth’ do.

We are called as music & worship leaders to lead in more than just music. We are called to lead others to express our worship daily. So, I encourage you to make worship part of your every day. It will help you and me become better leaders. As a result we will see worship expressed in our lives and others around us much differently. We can do it.
