E Sreedharan , the main architect behind the world-class Delhi Metro Rail, will now receive France 's highest decoration Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Sreedharan, the managing director of Metro will receive the Chevalier de l'Odre National de la Legion d'honneur by French Ambassador Dominique Girard at a function here Nov 22, a French embassy.

Legendary Napoleon Bonaparte founded the honour in 1802.  The Padma Shree awardee has been chosen for his "outstanding commitment to the development of transportation infrastructure in India and his valuable contribution in enhancing Indo-French relations."

French companies like Systra, Alstom, Cogifer and Geismar have contributed to the Delhi Metro's engineering, signals, fare collection system and other areas. Sreedharan began his association with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in 1997. Prior to that, he was associated with Konkan Railway and India's first Metro rail project in Kolkata.

We are proud to have engineer like Sreedharan. After Visvesvaraya he is the person who has become truly celebrity engineer. CBSEngg congratulates all the team of engineers who achieved such a gigantic feat. Well done Civil Engineers.
