Greetings Comrades,
How did the books ever get so cooked? I don't know. But I'm still leery of friends bearing bailouts. If all these governments get out of banks as soon as possible, maybe we'll only have a recession. And why are our choices for recession only "deep" or "slight" - what, no happy medium? Still, let's hope that this otherwise decent/slightly wobbly economy can chug through the financial morass. I am rooting for Bernanke who's simply hell bent on not letting the banks fail.
However, if the G does not get out of the banks in short order, prepare thyself for: 1) state-owned banks; 2) deeply overlapping public and private ownership; and 3) elevated nationalism and protectionism coupled with anti-immigration. Goodbye EU, hello keiretsu. Indeed, in this scenario, only China out of all the emerging economies will survive to join the G7 in global dominance. Probably not even all of the 7 will prosper.
Anyhow, happier thoughts. Quick and easy below. Two job listings, one a very prominent venture capital opening, and nine events. As for escapism, I for one intend to find solace in the CMJ Festival coming up next week in NY. And the CITI Conference to keep the intellect sharp!
Please continue to send in your suggestions, job opportunities and events. Hope to see you at the next Happy Hour.
Regards,
Kim Bangash

ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18
in the year of Our Lord 2008, the zombies will rise in their disgusting annual search of bloody marys, brains, and braaaands. All undead are entreated to join this, our fourth annual ghoulish spree of shopping, bar-hopping and horrifying Manhattan street theatrics.
The only way to mob up is through the website!
"During the fourth-annual flash-mob of horror known as Zombiecon, an undead army roams Manhattan in search of gray matter, Bloody Marys, and the latest fashion trends. Invading posh shops, zombies terrorize tourists and uptown ladies alike with an uncontrollable desire for mega-brands, ultimately making a not-so-subtle statement about America's rampant consumerism. Participants are encouraged to dress as specific characters; in the past, the crew has included zombie Amy Winehouse and zombie Hunter S. Thompson." - Ali Gitlow
