PFS status and meaning of progression

Thank you for sharing this informative database.
I have a question about the clinical outcomes that can be obtained from this dataset.

The overall survival status and OS months are available in the data, and according to the FAQ on cbioportal, it would appear that PFS_Status and PFS_months are also indicated, as shown below.

I searched through the data and tried looking in previous versions, but I couldn't find this information in the data. I am contacting you because I would like to know if the PFS status and PFS months are available somewhere, as I am very interested in developing methods to predict tumor progression for certain patients.

In progression timelines, I know it is possible to have an indicator of tumor progression (as shown below).

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I understand what the progression refers to here. Does it refer to the progression of the disease (for example, a patient who progresses from stage 3 to stage 4 by developing metastases)?

Hi Tristan,

PFS_STATUS and PFS_MONTHS are columns that can be included in the clinical patient file; however, they are not mandatory and therefore are not present in every study. Some studies that do contain these columns and could be useful for you are those from TCGA PanCancer Atlas.

Regarding the progression in the diagnosis timelines that you shared, are you looking at the MSK-CHORD study? If so, the progression events were determined by an NLP model that analyzed radiology reports to calculate a probability of progression.  For more information, please see the study's paper: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-08167-5
