We are puzzled to find out variable information on databases about whether SK-MEL-28 is a primary or metastatic cell line.

Sloan Kettering page shows it was established from axillary lymph node suggesting it as metastatic.

https://www.mskcc.org/research-advantage/support/technology/tangible-material/human-melanoma-cell-line-sk-mel-28

ATCC says it is from skin and doesn’t specify anything further.

https://www.atcc.org/products/all/HTB-72.aspx#generalinformation

Depmap portal doesn’t say anything:

https://depmap.org/portal/context/melanoma

cBioportal lists SKMEL-28 as a PRIMARY melanoma cell line in the raw data deposited by CCLE, broad institute.

https://www.cbioportal.org/patient/clinicalData?studyId=ccle_broad_2019&caseId=SKMEL28_SKIN

please confirm whether SK-MEL-28 is a primary or metastatic cell line? This information is crucial for my project. I tried to contact Dr. Takahasi, in depositor and creator of this cell line, but the email was undeliverable.

Hi Nirjhar,

Unfortunately we don't have any additional information about that cell line. I suggest reaching out to others on the team that developed this line to see if they can provide more information.

And if you cannot get in touch with any of the original authors, the MSK website (your first link) is probably the most reliable source of information.

Niki.
