Zain, since you are sending this to a Google Group, keep in mind that this is a public mailing list where both mentors and other students will see your message. You want to sound professional, technically capable, and ready to contribute immediately.

Regarding that "Profile not found. Please finish registration" error—that is a common GSoC portal glitch. Make sure you have filled out every single field in your contributor profile, especially the "Shipping Address" and "Tax" sections, as those often block the final submission.

To: cbiop...@googlegroups.com Subject: GSoC 2026: Interest in contributing to cBioPortal | Full-Stack & AI Background | Zain Ali Khan

Dear cBioPortal Community and Mentors,

My name is Zain Ali Khan, a developer and AI researcher from Pakistan. I am writing to introduce myself as a prospective GSoC 2026 contributor for the cBioPortal project.

I have a strong background in Java, React, and TypeScript, which aligns closely with cBioPortal’s tech stack. As the CTO of an educational platform (EDS) serving 933+ institutions, I have experience managing large-scale data systems and building user-centric interfaces.

Why I am passionate about cBioPortal:

  • Technical Fit: I am comfortable with the Java Spring Boot backend and MySQL database management. I am also proficient in creating complex, interactive frontends using React.

  • Research Alignment: My current research in Sparse Neural Networks focuses on high-dimensional data efficiency. I am fascinated by how cBioPortal handles massive cancer genomic datasets and would love to help optimize these processes or enhance visualization tools like the Mutation Mapper.

  • Impact: I am deeply motivated by the goal of aiding discovery in precision medicine. My previous work, FloodSense AI, utilized NASA satellite data for predictive modeling—a task that, like genomics, requires distilling "big data" into actionable insights.

I have already begun exploring the documentation and the GitHub repositories. I am particularly interested in [mention a specific 2026 project idea here, e.g., "Enhanced Patient View" or "Advanced Query Filters"].

I look forward to engaging with the community and contributing to the portal’s mission.

Best regards,

Zain Ali Khan
