Do I need a Copyright Permission

Hello,

We examined one of the TCGA breast cancer studies which are available on cBioPortal, did analysis and found some excellent correlation between our gene of interest and other genetic and clinical factors. Do I need to get copyright permission if I need to publish my findings using that dataset?  If yes, whom I should get it from, cBioPortal or the owner (authors) of the dataset?.

Hi Aymen,

Thanks for checking. You do not need any copyright permissions, but you do need to cite the data source (e.g. a TCGA breast publication or TCGA pancancer analysis, depending on which version of the data you used) and you need to cite cBioPortal (Cerami et al., 2012 & Gao et al., 2013 - links to these publications are provided on the cBioPortal homepage, just to the left of the twitter feed).
