Dear CBIG group,

Thank you for providing the network for the research community. I am a PhD student from KCL, Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences, and I am trying to localize the brain coordinates related to dopaminergic drugs using the Yeo2011_7Networks_N1000.split_components.FSL_MNI152_1mm.nii.gz and the 7Networks_ColorLUT_freeview.txt.

I loaded the Yeo2011network in fsl and the lookup table accordingly (As shown in two graphs).

For the coordinates -58, -60, 30 and -40,16, 24, both of them sit in the orange region (regions of same color, the control network), but the former one shows value 22 = 7Networks_LH_Default_Par and the latter one shows value 16 = 7Networks_LH_Cont_PFCl.

The control network has the color of orange from the lookup table,

16      7Networks_LH_Cont_PFCl                   230 149  35  0

Screenshot 2025-03-21 at 01.13.13.png

while default network should have red color:

22      7Networks_LH_Default_Par                 205  61  77  0

Do you know why both coordinates seem to be located in the orange region, which is associated with the control network? Could it be because some default regions lie within the orange space? Or could it be the FSL lookup table inaccuracy?

Thank you very much for your kind help in advance.

Best wishes,

Yuchen

Dear Yuchen,

Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in our lab’s resources.

The discrepancy you are observing between the coordinate values’ assigned label and their corresponding network regions' colour may stem from variations in the lookup colour tables (LUTs) used in different visualization tools.

To ensure accurate mapping of brain coordinates to their respective networks, we recommend using the LUT specifically designed for FSLview/FSLeyes:  https://github.com/ThomasYeoLab/CBIG/blob/master/stable_projects/brain_parcellation/Yeo2011_fcMRI_clustering/1000subjects_reference/Yeo_JNeurophysiol11_SplitLabels/MNI152/7Networks_ColorLUT_fslview.lut

When utilizing this LUT, the coordinates you mentioned should align as expected. I am attaching the screenshots of what I obtain for your reference:

  • Coordinate (-58, -60, 30): This point is located in the left hemisphere’s default network (7Networks_LH_Default_Par).

  • Coordinate (-40, 16, 24): This point falls within the left hemisphere’s control network (7Networks_LH_Cont_PFCl).

By applying the recommended LUT, these coordinates should correspond to their respective network region colours, as expected.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

Shreya

Dear Shreya,

Thank you very much for your kind reply! I used the LUT file as you suggested with the recent versions of fsl (e.g.6.0.5.2; 6.0.7.14). Both of the versions are showing the same color range (two coordinates are still in the orange color regions, but the values they return are correct). I guess the reason might be the version difference of fsl.

Thank you again!

Best wishes,

Yuchen
