Has anybody else noticed that meeting attendance has dropped off
significantly over the last year or two? Would anybody like to speculate
as to why? Is it a problem? Are we getting less relevant? Is earlier
enthusiasm wearing off? Or does it just indicate that we are more
effective at operating and communicating between meetings?
Whatever the reason, should we think about whether we should adapt?
Perhaps change the meeting format, or have meetings more or less
frequently? Adopt a more formal mechanism for allowing decisions to be
made by the membership between meetings? Or re-focus on making decisions
at meetings where possible and not between them?
I have no hidden agenda here - it's just been at the back of my mind for a
while and I was wondering what others thought.
Cheers,
Ian
I'm a bit of a silent member. I joined when I worked in the CBD, but
haven't done so for a couple of years. It's quite hard for me to
travel into the city for meetings so I've not been to any. Not sure if
any other people have a similar problem :)

I've moved office to Milton and can't make as many meetings as I'd
like any more (hmmmnn, none since the move, actually). I still cycle
to the city several days a week so membership is still important for me.
If I had to make a criticism, it's that the meetings are too long and
too much time is spent on administrivia, and not enough on the juicy
business of snarking at $OBSTACLE_TO_CYCLING. Some of them have
stretched near two hours, which is a wee bit more time than I can
comfortably skive off for...
