Responding to correspondence from me last August, I've had a letter from the Lord Mayor, including with Council's letter of complaint to Mirvac via the Dept of Infrastructure and Planning about the sub-standard treatment of the new intersection for peds and cyclists. Unfortunately, the photos are not reproducible - too dark to scan - but those of us who ride that way know what's been done (I’ll get the letter itself scanned and loaded onto the BUG website). The Dept remains the regulator and they don't give a whatsis, having designed without using the proper standards. Mirvac should have to re-do it but don't sit around waiting.
At least two other issues with the Tennis centre are: the Softstone St/KATce roundabout squeezes cycles into the single lane despite loads of room to avoid squeezing; the rat-run created by the pathetic lack of appropriate traffic calming at the tennis centre plaza, and no mandatory speed limit below the standard 50. We should be aiming to eliminate motor vehicle access from one side to the other of the plaza, thus removing the rat-run completely. I have written to the Lord Mayor on these issues this very day.
Cheers,
John
