The government of India decides the rate of interest for PPF account. The current interest rate effective from 1 April 2013 is 8.7% Per Annum(compounded annually).Interest is calculated on the lowest balance between the close of the fifth day and the last day of every month.
We have compiled Interest Rate on PPF from 01.04.1952 to 31.03.2015 and noted that lowest Interest rate on PPF during the period was 3.50% Per annum during the period from 1955-1957 and High Rate of Interest on PPF was 12% during the period from 1989-2001. PPF Rate for Financial Year 2014-15 is kept unchanged at 8.70% vide Notification No. GSR 496(E) [F.NO.6-1/2011-NS-II (PT.II)], Dated 11-7-2014.
