Okay, everybody: this review is not going up today. I have been copy editing all of these reviews since noon and it took a lot for me to not give up and drown my sorrows in various whiskys. Most of you I have e-mailed or found on Hangouts about a few errors, but if I had done that for everything or chosen my usual route of real-time editing on Google Docs, I would not have gotten any sleep last night.
So, in the next week, I will be writing up a formatting guide for the games section (since most of you have opted to not read the
one on the forums for the entire site). I would highly recommend that you all look up AP Style formatting guides on the Internet in the meantime, since most of it will come from that.
The one thing that I have to say to all of you is this: You are not writing for yourself, but for an audience. This one sentence should remain in the back of your minds when writing anything. That does not mean that I want you to remove your personality from your writing. In fact, that sounds like I will be proofreading the written equivalent to nails scratching a chalkboard. But a very many of your mistakes can be avoided by reading over your articles before submission.
Your review will go up tomorrow and I will send a link when it does. At some point over the next week, while working on the formatting guide, I will be finding time to speak with each of you about things you could do to improve your writing for the site.
You are all great writers, but each of you can improve. Same goes for me, as both a writer and editor.
Have a great weekend,
- Nick
