Hey, guys!

I am going to try and make these e-mails a regular occurrence going forward.

First up, I posted up a new podcast today that we're doing here in Austin called "Intoxicast", where we drink a lot of booze and discuss important topics. The reason I'm letting you guys know is because our first episode was about the next generation of consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.

Next, Sarah Conde's "Infinite Ammo" post -- found here, if you still haven't read it -- made #7 on last week's Most Read articles. The column discussed the "Brosie" situation at Meteor Entertainment and even got notice from K2 herself on Twitter! Congrats to Sarah on her first CB article and stay tuned for more from her.

The main reason for this e-mail was to talk about the recently released Humble Indie Bundle 8. I wanted to do a review piece on all the games to go up early next week -- Tuesday, 6/4, at the latest -- but the only way for that to happen is if we get a number of us doing it. I wanted it be be like the comics section's "Singles Going Steady" or "Tiny Pages Made of Ashes" where a few writers do short reviews for each game. You guys were talking about collaborative pieces and I think this would be a good way to start.

So, who's in?!

I'm def in. I haven't actually gotten this Bundle because I already own some of them. I can do any of these, probably more than one too: Hotline Miami, Dear Esther, or Thomas Was Alone. If I had to choose one, I'd most like to handle TWA.

Might still get it thought, so I'll keep you updated!

And so I caved in because I could not argue with the price.

If there's anyone who doesn't feel like getting the Bundle but is interested in reviewing, I'm offering my Steam keys for Thomas Was Alone and Dear Esther. First come basis.

Awesome, guys! I will take whatever isn't taken. Since I finished Fuse and I'm fairly certain Capcom won't be sending Remember Me, I may have a bit of time for some indie games.

Sean: I'll take Hotline Miami, only because I played it for 20 minutes and never went back to it. I want to use this as an excuse to actually play that damned game.

Dorian: Personally, if you've already played an awful lot of Awesomenauts, then I don't want to read your review for it. The other idea behind this is that we are trying some new stuff. Humble Bundles are like going into a comic shop and just picking up stuff you've never tried before. That's what I want to read about. If you aren't getting the Humble Indie Bundle, ask for one of Sean's keys.

If Sean still has a key for Dear Esther, I'd give it a whirl.

OK, guys, what is going on with this?

If you are taking part, I need you guys to list what games you're playing for this.

Proteus:
Hotline Miami:
Little Inferno:
Awesomenauts:
Capsized:
Thomas Was Alone:
Dear Esther:

So far, no one has dibs on anything. All you guys have to do is give me short review blurbs for the game(s) you're taking; +/-500 words.

I can get Thomas Was Alone to you by tomorrow night, and if no one else is up for any, I can probably get Proteus or Awesomenauts to you by Wednesday.

Cool beans! Dorian, go ahead and take Awesomenauts since no one else is willing to join in. As for you, Sean, if you want the other as well, take it.

Jon, I don't know which ones you wanted, but take whichever. Even Hotline, just so I can get the collaborative article that you all wanted up this week.

Proteus: Sean
Hotline Miami:
Little Inferno:
Awesomenauts: Dorian
Capsized:
Thomas Was Alone: Sean
Dear EstherDorian

OK, guys... it's happened. Humble Indie Bundle 8 added four additional games to the lineup. This is what they always do, why I said that I wanted this article to go up by yesterday at the latest when I suggested this piece.

This article cannot and will not go up after Friday, meaning I need your reviews by tomorrow. The only 2 reviews I have gotten in were from Dorian. Remember: THESE ARE NOT FULL REVIEWS. I am asking for +/- 500 words for each game. These are mini-reviews from each of you so that we can give the entire bundle a score.

Also, the only way it is going up is if we have reviews for these newly added titles, as well. Luckily, Sean volunteered to take one more. So I need these last three to be taken:

ProteusSean
Hotline Miami: Nick
Little Inferno: Nick
Awesomenauts: Dorian
Capsized: Jon
Thomas Was AloneSean
Dear EstherDorian
Tiny & Big in Grandpa's Leftovers: Sean
Intrusion 2:
English Country Tune:
Oil Rush:

Everyone was in agreement that we need collaborative articles going forward. So far, I am wondering why it is taking so much to get you all to contribute. This is the first time that our newly established team is working on something together. Let's show the rest of the site that we can do this.

Thanks!
- Nick

Okay, everybody: this review is not going up today. I have been copy editing all of these reviews since noon and it took a lot for me to not give up and drown my sorrows in various whiskys. Most of you I have e-mailed or found on Hangouts about a few errors, but if I had done that for everything or chosen my usual route of real-time editing on Google Docs, I would not have gotten any sleep last night.

So, in the next week, I will be writing up a formatting guide for the games section (since most of you have opted to not read the one on the forums for the entire site). I would highly recommend that you all look up AP Style formatting guides on the Internet in the meantime, since most of it will come from that.

The one thing that I have to say to all of you is this: You are not writing for yourself, but for an audience. This one sentence should remain in the back of your minds when writing anything. That does not mean that I want you to remove your personality from your writing. In fact, that sounds like I will be proofreading the written equivalent to nails scratching a chalkboard. But a very many of your mistakes can be avoided by reading over your articles before submission.

Your review will go up tomorrow and I will send a link when it does. At some point over the next week, while working on the formatting guide, I will be finding time to speak with each of you about things you could do to improve your writing for the site.

You are all great writers, but each of you can improve. Same goes for me, as both a writer and editor.

Have a great weekend,
- Nick

Like I said, I'll be messaging you all in the next few days. Right now, I just can't deal with it. If you are concerned, I can contact you first.

Meanwhile, just follow the few instructions I gave (i.e. AP style guide and read over your work).
