The herbicide Sonar (active ingredient fluridone) is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 1 in the Cayuga Inlet. The inlet will not be closed as a result of this treatment.
You should not water plants with water taken directly from the inlet until after the end of the fluridone treatment. There are no swimming or fishing restrictions due to Sonar Genesis and Sonar One use.
A liquid form of fluridone, Sonar Genesis, and a pellet form, Sonar One, will both be used in order to get good cover of Cayuga Inlet from the fish ladder to the mouth at Cayuga Lake. The liquid herbicide is applied at a very low dose below the surface of the water using automatic injection units for 30 to 60 days, based on hydrilla growth.
Water quality monitoring will occur both in the treatment area and within a ½ mile from each end of the treatment area. The first analytical results are expected to be available within 48 hours at StopHydrilla.org.
