Extended Security Updates for embedded devices, including Windows Embedded Standard 7, are only available from OEMs. Other products currently supported by the ESU program include SQL Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems, Windows Server 2008 R2 for Embedded Systems, and Windows 7 for Embedded Systems. For more information, see the Extended Security Updates FAQ.

Based on Windows 8,[25] Windows Embedded 8 Industry was released on April 2, 2013[15][26] and is available in Pro, Pro Retail, and Enterprise editions.[9][10][8] The Pro and Pro Retail editions are only available pre-installed on OEM devices, while the Enterprise edition is available through the volume licensing channel only. The Pro Retail edition adds a few extra features for use in retail environments, while the Enterprise edition provides embedded-specific features designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 8 Enterprise. Alaska Airlines uses Windows Embedded 8 Industry in-flight entertainment devices.[27] Unsupported as of January 12, 2016; users must install Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry in order to continue receiving updates and support.

Currently I've succesfully set up a Citrix Xenapp 7.6, however in production there a some Windows 7 embedded clients who are configured to use the Program Neighborhood client. This client was succesfully connecting to the Xenapp 6.5 farm, but I can't connect to the new Xenapp 7.x delivery controller. Is it actually possible to use this client with Citrix Xenapp 7.6?? I've set it up with http on port 80, but it's not working.

Windows Embedded, now called Windows IoT, is afamily of operating systems from Microsoft designed for use in embedded systems. Windows Embeddedoperating systems are available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), who make it availableto end users preloaded with their hardware.

I don't see any reason why we couldn't search for updates the same way we do for POSready on XP and apply them to windows 7. You can do whatever you want but knowing what I know personally I wouldn't if it were me.

- I have tried the XP hack (WPA / PosReady) and it does not work. Keep showing normal updates.
- From the normal Windows 7, I have started to install Windows PosReady 7 giving to setup.exe and it says that another operating system is detected and it will save it as windows.old, therefore, it does not update it, it is like a clean installation always.

Background:
Security certificates and tokens are the standard way that websites control and maintain a private and secure connection between user and the server. A user typically enters a username and password and the server sends back a token-signing certificate. These certificates have different levels of encryption security such as support for SHA-1 or SHA-2 encryption. The encryption for logging into ArcGIS Online has been upgraded to SHA-2 (beginning Dec 2 2015). The move to SHA-2 is an industry wide action to improve internet security. The following article describes Microsoft's position. -us/kb/2986556. The support for SHA-2 encryption is at the operating system level, and for Windows it is available on Windows (XP, 7, 8.1, 10) and Windows Embedded HandHeld 6.5 devices that have been patched by the manufacture. Devices with mobile operating systems older than Windows Embedded HandHeld 6.5 cannot be patched.
