The symptom in my case was that whenever a large amount of data was read or written to ANY external drive on my system, WD or otherwise, I would experience USB connectivity drop-outs. My mouse would stick, my keyboard backlight would flash, keys would stick, sound from my sound card would be disrupted, etc., and I could reproduce this very reliably just by running winsat disk -drive Z -seq -read.

I made an account here just to confirm that this issue happened to me! It was driving me crazy, every time I did a file transfer from my external drives my peripherals were acting up - mainly keyboard was freezing and stuttering as I was typing. I think it was also causing repeated data corruption issues I was getting from one of my external SSDs connected via USB.

WD Drive Utilities on both Windows and Mac do not see the My Book Mirror Edition drive. I might try up dating the firmware if I could but the universal firmware updater does not recognize the drive either. I would hope that there is some sort of a workaround to be able to configure/error check this drive.

Windows has never really offered much of a disk utility. My Computer doesn't offer many options, and the Disk Management Tool isn't meant for simple, everyday tasks. Alex Nolan's Drive Manager is a free, portable disk management tool that displays available space and a lot of other information about your hard drives, optical drives, removable drives, and even your card readers. It can hide and unhide or lock and unlock drives, access tools like Check Disk, create substitute drive letters for files and folders, search drives, show disk speed, eject USB drives, and more.

As portable freeware, Drive Manager opens as soon as you click its executable file, which can go anywhere, including portable devices like USB drives. Drive Manager's user interface is really quite attractive, with a rounded, shaded Aero look and colorful icons. The main list view displayed a great deal of information about our installed disks, with grayed-out entries for inactive card readers and removable drives as well as the empty DVD-RW drive. The program hides A and B drives, since floppies are scarce these days. Drive Manager displays disk size, space used, and both available space and free space percentage, with automatic refreshing every 10 seconds, as well as Volume Serial, Product ID, and lots more. We could access any drive's Explorer Properties or open it directly in Explorer from Drive Manager's toolbar or menu. The Drives menu accesses much more information, including SMART data. We could also Map and Disconnect Network Drives.

Our favorite extra has to be the Disk Speed tool, which runs benchmarking tests on local or removable drives, depending on which you select. We tested our local disk drives, and the benchmarking tool showed our SSD posting read times more than three times faster than our hard disk. We were surprised that Drive Manager doesn't distinguish SSDs and HDDs in its headings, and also that we couldn't seem to customize the heading selections or reposition them, though we could drag the separators. Perhaps an update will accommodate the rapid changes brought by SSDs. In any case, we have no trouble calling Drive Manager one of our favorite disk utilities.

Drive Manager for SIMATIC (DM4S-01) is a plug-in device tool that can be easily installed into the STEP 7 and TIA Portal. It utilizes the TCI interface of the SIMATIC PLC to communicate with the drives connected to PROFIBUS or PROFINET network.

Drive Manager for SIMATIC offers several useful ready-made features that simplify the setup of ABB low voltage drives used in combination with SIMATIC S7 PLCs including:

  • Network connection over PROFIBUS and PROFINET (single point of access)
  • Online and offline configuration of drives
  • Monitoring of drive actual values
  • Export to/import from the drive dedicated PC tools
  • Saving drive parameter settings within the SIMATIC PLC project

You must uninitalize the drive before uninstalling. Removing the software will not unlock the drive. IF you have already uninstalled it and it wasn't uninitalied, go to the drivers page from dell, for that model laptop and reinstall. It will have retained the passwords for all user.

The ITS Shared Drive Manager (shared-dri...@umich.edu) is added to all U-M Google shared drives and is necessary for lifecycle management of the environment. This includes the ability to enumerate the ownership (i.e., Managers) and space used for shared drives. This information is used to ensure every shared drive has eligible Managers (i.e., faculty, regular staff, and students) assigned across the lifetime of the drive and provides visibility into the total space usage in U-M Google. (ITS Shared Drive Manager does not enumerate file names or provide access to file content.)

Although Managers can remove the ITS Shared Drive Manager account from their shared drives, they are strongly advised against it. If you remove the account from your shared drive, it will be automatically added back.

The ITS Shared Drive Manager account does not access or monitor drive content. As with other collaboration services (e.g., U-M Slack), this data is only accessed in accordance with the university policy on Privacy and the Need to Monitor and Access Records (SPG 601.11).

If using self-encrypting drive (SED) Block SID Authentication, a BIOS admin password must be activated. If SED Block SID Authentication is unnecessary, it can be disabled. For more information, reference Pre-Boot Authentication Will Not Activate Due to SED Block SID Authentication Enabled.

A self-encrypting drive must be deprovisioned before uninstalling the Dell Data Security software, preparing the drive for use in a different endpoint, or reimaging the drive. For more information, reference How to Deprovision Dell Encryption Enterprise / Personal Self-Encrypting Drive Manager / Dell Data Protection Self-Encrypting Drive Manager.

I have a TwinCAT Drive Manager 2 project with several axis and it worked for some time. However, now when I open the project and select a terminal or a drive I get the following error in the drive manager project:

What it does on single WD My Book drives:
  • Display detailed drive status including: Drive Name, Volume Letter, Percent Used, Temperature Status
  • Safely remove a WD My Book drive
What it does on dual WD My Book external RAID edition drives:
  • Display detailed drive status including: Drive Name, Volume Letter, Percent Used, Temperature Status
  • Display the RAID configuration including the RAID status and health
  • Allow you to change the RAID configuration
  • Safely remove a WD My Book drive
For Mac's, please Answer ID 4730: RETIRED: What the WD RAID Manager flashing icons mean on a Mac computer.

No, you can't view or access a shared drive's content unless you have specifically been given access to it. However, since you are an admin, you can give yourself access. Go to admin console > apps > drive > manage shared drives. There you will find an option to manage drive members.

This chart is for reference purpose only for those departments already using the Managed department folders. CCS is strongly encouraging these departments to migrate to Google Shared drive as soon as possible.

Individual team members with Manager, Content Manager and Contributor access can share files in the Shared Drive with other individuals. Managers in the Shared Drive can share subfolders in the shared drive with non members of the shared drive. Managers can also add access to folders and files for members with limited access.
