This morning, we all met in the cafe before before heading up to our new home at the school, classroom 14, which is where our lessons will be for the forseeable future, all in our brand spanking new uniforms. All in all, the first day was brilliant and we were certainly eased in gently to lessons. We also met our course mentor who is in essence our link between the school and us the students if we have any problems. I also obliged to become AP376 course rep, therefore I get given the lovely job of ensuring everything runs smoothly and ensuring our class is happy as a whole. Today lessons wise, we had Airframes & Systems, then a CBT (computer based training) on Principles of Flight (POF), then an intro to Human Performance & Limitations (HP&L) lesson to finish. The instructors are all ex military or civil aviation guys with years and years of instructing experience and are all absolutely hilarious, which certainly makes groundschool more bearable!
CAE Oxford, part of CAE Inc., is an ab initio flight training network. It provides integrated aviation training and resourcing services. Professional airline pilots have been trained at the Oxford Aviation Academy (OAA) flight school since 1961.
OAA operates 125 training aircraft, 64 flight simulators, and 10 training centres, delivering a portfolio of aviation training courses. OAA's 3 ab initio airline pilot training[1] schools have trained more than 26,000 professional pilots over the past 50 years. OAA's seven training centres offer approved airline pilot, cabin crew[2] and maintenance engineer[3] training on a wide range of aircraft types including Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, BAE Systems, and Embraer.
The Oxford Flying Club was opened by the mayor of Oxford in 1939. However, restrictions placed on civil aviation during the Second World War curtailed its activities, and the airfield operated as RAF Kidlington for the duration of hostilities. The club reopened in 1947, renamed as the Oxford Aeroplane Club. During the 1950s, it gradually increased its fleet and, by 1960, had become a flying school geared to the training of professional pilots.
