There were some spirited displays from the Scottish champions in the Europa League last season before a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt ended their European campaign in the Conference League back in February.

During his time at Villanova, Williams has coached a total of 44 All-Americans and more than 100 BIG?EAST?champions, while the Wildcats have consistently rewritten the school record book in nearly every sprint and hurdle event.

Williams' accomplishments during his time at Villanova have helped elevate the program back to national prominence. Some of the Wildcats top accomplishments came during the 2013-14 academic year, when both the men's and women's teams captured BIG?EAST?titles during both the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. Villanova earned a total of four BIG?EAST?Coaching Staff of the Year honors for winning those league titles and the two teams combined to produce 21 All-Americans between the indoor and outdoor seasons.

At the indoor BIG?EAST?Championships, men's track senior Samuel Ellison was the individual champion in the 500 meters, while women's track junior Emerald Walden captured the 60 meter hurdles. Ellison also anchored the Wildcats to a championship in the 4x400 meter relay outdoors, while Walden won the 100 meter hurdles and men's track sophomore Aaron Sandifer won the 110 meter hurdles. In addition, women's track junior Varonica Johnson set a new school record in the 100 meters.

Williams achieved quick success in his first few years with the Villanova program when he coached sprinters Kareem Archer and Charmaine Walker as each made big impacts on the national scene. Archer was a four-time All-American and a six-time BIG?EAST?champion for the Wildcats during a terrific collegiate career. He came in third in the 400 meter hurdles at the 1997 outdoor NCAA?Championships and then doubled up as an All-American in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 meter hurdles one year later. He was also an All-American indoors in the 55 meter hurdles in 1998 when he registered a fourth place finish at the national championships.

From 2005-07, Monique Morgan was a two-time All-American and a three-time BIG?EAST?champion in the hurdles. She finished in eighth place indoors in the 60 meter hurdles in 2007 as well as outdoors in the 100 meter hurdles one year earlier. Morgan won conference championships in the 60 meter hurdles indoors on two occasions and also captured the 2007 outdoor BIG?EAST?title in the 100 meter hurdles. She has gone on to have an extremely successful international racing career and in 2014-15 will be in her first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wildcats.

Williams was only in his second year at Villanova when Archer won the outdoor BIG?EAST?championship in the 400 meter hurdles in 1996. The Wildcats also won the 4x400 meter relay at the outdoor meet that season, while Archer went on to win outdoor titles in 1997 in both the 400 meter hurdles and the triple jump.

Mike Brown and Carlos Bedoya are two other top athletes that Williams has coached. Brown was the BIG?EAST?champion indoors in the 400 meters and outdoors in the 400 meter hurdles, while also running on two conference champion 4x400 relay squads. Bedoya won the indoor league championship in the 200 meters in 2002 and 2004, while winning the 2003 outdoor title. He was also a member of the 2002 indoor 4x400 meter relay team which won a BIG?EAST?title.

The success of Williams' student-athletes while at Villanova has been a springboard to their continued success in international competition. Williams has seen his athletes represent the national teams of the United States, Jamaica, Barbados and Ecuador. Most recently, Monique Morgan won a Jamaican national title in the 100 meter hurdles in the summer of 2014. That victory also qualified her for the Jamaican team which represented the country later in the summer at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2013, Morgan won a gold medal for Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean senior track & field championships.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Williams attended Blinn College (Texas) and Ole Miss during his own undergraduate career. He was the captain of two national championship teams at Blinn College and earned junior college All-America honors in the sprint events and the triple jump. At Ole Miss, Williams earned Academic All-SEC?honors and was named to the Dean's List for his academic success. Williams received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Ole Miss with a major in management in 1990.

Following graduation Williams continued to excel in competition at the international level. He was the Jamaican national champion in the triple jump and went on to be a part of several Jamaican national teams.

In addition, the effect of the competitive calendars scheduled by the Italian soccer federation can also be viewed for the total duration (cumulative days) of the off-season + preseason sub-periods. In fact, every year the end of the Serie A championship can be varied by the FIGC based on the participation of the Italian national team in the World Cup (FIFA) or European Football Championships (UEFA) as observed in this study for the 2009/10 and 2011/12 editions when it was expedited due to the 2010 World Cup (South Africa, 2010) and the 2012 European Championship (Poland and Ukraine, 2012), respectively. Consequently, also the total duration of the off-season + preseason period (cumulative days) registered for the 2010/11 and 2012/13 seasons was longer than in 2009/10 and 2013/14, due to the attendance of the Italian national team to these international tournaments (Table 2). However, though a similar shorter offseason + preseason period was expected to be registered also for the 2011/12, that season was characterized by long off-season + preseason duration determined by the strike of the Italian Footballers Association (Associazione Italiana Calciatori, AIC), which caused the beginning of the championship was postponed (Table 2).
