I need to have Windows available, so I decided to install Windows 7 on my Mac. I recently upgraded to macOS 10.12 Sierra Public Beta (currently, I have PB 2), but I don't think that the problem is here because of the beta OS (I had the same issue few years ago on production version of OS).
I tried to run Boot Camp Assistant, but when I click Continue, message with text "Not enough space on startup disk to repartition. You must have at least 50GB of free space." (I have macOS in Czech, so I translated it), which is weird. I have 63GB free and I have SSD (128GB), so there shouldn't be any problem with fragmentation.
I have the same Problem, because when i look in detail on my disk space it says 90 GB free, but there is a lot of "purgeable" space in this 90 GB that is blocking too much of my entire ssd space and i don't know how to delete it. So Boot Camp says not enough free space....
I simply opened Time Machine Preferences, clicked the Lock Icon to unlock and make changes. Then I unchecked the box next to Back Up Automatically under the TM Icon. Finally I restarted my Mac. When I turned my Mac back on to check the storage all the purgeable data was gone which freed up over 70 GB on my SSD. Afterwards I went back into the TM preferences and rechecked the Back Up Automatically box. After restarting my computer a second time I saw that the purgeable data was still gone.
The issue is that the "OSXRESERVED" partition, that is created as part of the bootcamp process, is only 8GB in size. The drivers and ISO files need to save in this partition during the process and the 8GB is no longer enough to accommodate these files.
I had the same problem.Mine complained I did not have enough space, need 42GB.I had 45, then 50, cleaned more and more, eventually it worked after deleting lotsof stuff. In total about double the space it says you need. So, you need about 90-95GB to get the go-ahead.
anyone encounter this or have any suggestions? i have been searching the web for a solution but everything i find has a specific error or something that points to a real problem. i'm not even getting an error i can search for.
i ended up just manually creating a FAT partition and installing windows using a usb installer, which worked perfectly. i created the installer and also downloaded the windows support software using boot camp assistant on my macbook air. thanks for your replies, though.
i did notice in the system profiler that my File System is still Journaled HFS+ , so i guess for some reason when i upgraded macOS it didn't convert to APFS? maybe that has something to do with my issue... although the more i read about Boot Camp issues in Mojave, it seems like APFS is the cause of most issues.
I went into utilities->boot camp assistant->show package contents->contents->Info.plist and changed some of the code and now boot camp assistant always quits unexpectedly when I try to open it. How do I reset this program or what can I do. I am trying to duel boot my mac to run windows 7 premium home 64 bit. I am trying to use a flash drive with windows 7 .iso file but I don't have a clue what I'm doing. I pay $60 for windows and I can't even install it. There are so many errors and stupid formatting crap to do and now boot camp assistant doesn't work. I watched some guy on youtube and followed him exactly and now my bootcamp is messed. Someone please help.
No I don't have time machine, it's a late 2011 macbook pro, 2.3GHz intel i5, 4GB ram with mavericks. After I first changed it, I tried to run boot camp assistant but it quit unexpectedly so I changed the code back but it still quits unexpectedly. this is the youtube video =MD4kgJQ-r0c
You know what, I went back to the youtube video and looked at the forum he attached and someone there wrote how to solve the problem...but your right too...I had to change some code because I'm running mavericks and I needed to enter a code into terminal to stop boot camp from quitting...i think it was something about permissions...but thank you very much anyway...its nice to know people there are people like you that care...peace
I just have changed my Boot camp Info.plist to make it support making USB installing drives on my Mac, after i changed Info.plist Boot camp crashes and then it didn't run after several attempts, then after searching for solutions i open terminal and write the code sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app, then it appears as /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature. After that i still can't open my boot camp assistant app, every time i try to open it, a message pop up like, "Boot Camp Assistant can't be open error -1712
It looks like after your code-signed, the application is running, and you are trying got start a second instance. Can you check Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor and enter 'boot' in the top right hand search box which looks like a magnifying glass. Does it return any information? If yes, click on it and Force Quit the application.
Hi, I've had the same experience, but then I have copied the backup info.plist replacing edited one and run sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app command into Terminal. Now Boot Camp Assistant is working!
I have successfully created a bootdisk to install windows 7. And i'm having a problem on partitioning my drive for my boot camp to install windows 7. After clicking the continue on the selecting the partition size my boot camp prompted "Boot Camp Assistant quit unexpectedly". Im having a boot camp assistan version 5.0.1(456) running on macbook pro 15" retina display core i7 with 8gb ram and 500gb ssd. My ssd is in Mac OS Exteded(Journaled).
I've quit Boot Camp and re-opened it. I've restarted my computer. I have no updates available. I've reinstalled Maverics and also downloaded Boot camp from a third party. Nothing seems to work. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina Late 2013) and have OSX 10.9 installed.
If anyone is still on this thread then I found that you can view how far it really is done by going to Applications>Utilities>Activity Monitor>Disk then find Boot Camp Assistant among the list and under bytes written tab compare that to the iso size and for example it is a 4GB iso and the bytes written are 3GB then it would be 75% done the part of coping the windows files to the usb. This as expected takes ages so just be patient
The Late 2013 MacBook Pro needs special Boot Camp drivers that can only be downloaded from Boot Camp Assistant, so remove the drivers you downloaded, close Boot Camp Assistant, open it again and start the download again. This process may take up to an hour, depending on your Internet connection.
I came back after an hour since I started boot camp and it had finished. Sorry to waste your time mende1. For anyone who needs help I'd give it a while because windows is a big OS. (ISO is around 4GB and uncompressed is around 20GB) Good luck to anyone who had this problem.
Can someone help me my bootcamp assistant is stucked at 75%. I waited for hours still no progress, I also cancel the progress, restart my mac and reprocess the download and it is still stucking at 75% after waiting for several hours.
I've done this process twice and both times it took 2+ hours but finally completed. It looks like it is not moving, but files are still transferring. I would recommend plugging in the power cord and letting it finish overnight. BTW, having both Windows and OSX installed has made this my favorite computer ever!
I'm trying to install windows 7 on my 2011 iMac using Boot Camp assistant. I have the latest windows support software downloaded and loaded onto my flash drive, and I have a windows 7 install disc in the optical drive. When I try to start the install, I get a window that pops up and says "windows 10 is not supported on this mac. Please use a DVD or USB drive which contains Windows 7 or Windows 8." But I have a windows 7 disc inserted. I even downloaded a Windows 8.1 ISO from microsoft and tried installing with that and got the same error message. I know windows 10 isn't supported because the iMac is too old, but I'm not sure why it can't install windows 7. I also just upgraded to Sierra (10.12.2). Thanks for any help!
Thanks for the suggestion, didn't realize that was an option! I attempted to do this and it looked like it would have worked, but due to some unrelated problems it didn't for me (I had issues partitioning the drive). It eventually worked using boot camp though (looks like it was some kind of glitch). So in case anyone else comes across this problem, here's what fixed it:
When I initially tried installing through boot camp, I got to the window with two check boxes, one for downloading windows support, the other for installing windows 7 or 8. I downloaded the windows support, and that check box automatically unchecked itself. I clicked "next" (or "continue" or whatever) to install, but at this point I didn't have the windows 7 install disc inserted. An error window popped up saying I needed to insert the disc, which I did. When I hit next again, I got the error window saying I couldn't install windows 10. I tried restarting and running boot camp again, but when I did that I didn't have the download windows support box checked (since I'd already downloaded it). I clicked next to install it and got the same error about windows 10. After trying the manual installation of windows 7 like Loner T suggested and running into problems, I wound up trying boot camp once more. This time I left the download windows support checked, let it download, had the disc inserted the whole time, and when I clicked next this time, it actually worked for some bizarre reason! I didn't try it, but I imagine this would also work with windows 8.1 since it looked like it was the same problem. So in short, I think it would have worked from the start if I had both boxes checked and the disc inserted when I began.
