I too read her book setting Lech.i wondered about her research then saw the gratitude page dedicated to Jim Goodbar, retired long time director at BLM Carlsbad.

Back when I was headed out to the guads 4-5 times a year (which was a
LONG time ago), a book came out that was a murder mystery set in
Guadalupe Mountain National Park by Nevada Barr.  At one point in the
book, the main character, Anna Pigeon, had to travel from the main
headquarters at GMNP and drive up to the Dog Canyon campground.  A route
that took her to Lucy's for a margarita, then down the same roads I had
driven dozens of times to get back to Dog Canyon/Three Mile Hill. 
Nevada Barr's detailed description of the area made me long for being
out in the guads again.

The book was called "Track of the Cat".

Later Nevada Barr wrote "Blind Descent", another murder mystery, this
time set in Lech in CCNP.  Another novel was called "Boarderland" set in
BBNP.

All in all, there are 19 Anna Pigeon novels set in different national
parks (and yes, I have read and own all 19).

Sorry, I digress.

Well tomorrow night on USA network - which, unfortunately, I do not have
- a new TV series is starting called "Anna Pigeon", based on the Nevada
Barr character.  The first episode is called "Track of the Cat" - the
same name as that first novel.  My hope is that season 1 will
essentially be a telling of the book of the same name, but I don't
actually know that.

I'll probably wait 10 weeks for the entire season to drop, then
subscribe to Peacock or something that lets me watch the USA network and
binge the whole series.

In the mean time, I'd love to hear if someone watches it, what they
think of it, and if season 1 really is book 1 in the series.

Jim says her discussion of Lech in the book is pretty good, up to where he took the author in the cave. After that it is more fanciful.
