"Hi cavers - Some very sad news to report:

Mike Walsh, NSS 11077FE, of Austin died today. He had been hospitalized in Austin following a heart attack earlier this week. Mike, 78, leaves a legacy of accomplishments to the Texas and Mexico caving community, having been among the organizers of our Texas Cavers' Reunion (almost 50 years ago!) and the principal founder of two cave conservation organizations in the state - along with extensive Mexican cave explorations and adventures.

Before his death, Mike and wife Lynda Beck had just returned from a trip to Chile, and Mike was planning a series of caving and sighseeing programs near Puebla, Mexico, where they maintained a residence.

Now, Mike's widow and family - including a son, Jeff Walsh, his wife Jessica, and their two sons - request privacy and time to grieve. Your patience is requested in order for them to plan and schedule a celebration of life for a later date. More information will also be available on the Hall of Texas and Mexico Cavers. "
