I am curious to know from members who are more knowledgeable than I on cave mapping  about the following:

1.  Did TxDOT map just the main passages with its LiDar dog robot or were additional handheld LiDar units used on the crawling passages?  The article states that 18 days over a 4 month span was used for mapping.  Is that sufficient amount of time to LiDar map the entire cave?

2.  A couple of points in the cave could be connected with GPS, the entrance and the original drilled hole into the cave.  Is it possible to overlay whatever is mapped with LiDar onto the cavers' map of Inner Space, merge these two maps together  and come up with a reasonably accurate map that would include newly LiDar mapped areas plus areas not mapped by LiDar?

3.  If the recent underground mapping is being done on IH 35 over Inner Space Cavern, is that a good indication that future expansion of IH 35 in this area will happen?

Thanks,
Paul Johnston

Why the Best Chance to Save Jacob’s Well Drained Away

The Legislature passed a measure to help save the iconic watering hole and Hays County’s dwindling aquifer. Then Greg Abbott vetoed it.

Jerry,

Are Jacob's Well and Blue Hole springs that lead to underwater caves?
