New updates are now available for the Caveatron firmware and Caveatron Process software on the Github site.

Caveatron firmware 2.22:

The user Compass Calibration method has been enhanced to improve its accuracy and repeatability. This includes doubling the number of points collected, subdividing into 4 times finer sectors to ensure better point distribution, and adding dynamic timing. The Compass Calibration is still performed the same ways but does take longer (2-3 min instead of 1-2 min), and it can be a bit more challenging to get the final few points, but I am definitely seeing an improvement in the result.

The Compass Calibration Check routine has been modified as well to provide a more useful result. It now requires the user to hold the Caveatron as horizontally as possible (points won't be collected if its not horizontal) and to gradually rotate it about 2-3 times. A result of 1% or less is good and 1-2% may be tolerable.

A small bug fix has also been included for the Caveatron SV LRUD mode.

Caveatron Process 2.2.1:

A new item has been added to the File menu to Update Point Cloud Coordinates. If you add new data to a survey that includes loop closures or re-done shots, the station coordinates may change. Before now this required re-processing all previous point clouds. With this new function, point clouds that have been previously imported into CloudCompare can be exported and have their coordinates directly updated with the new survey data without affecting their alignment and be re-imported into CloudCompare. Instructions for doing this are provided in the updated Caveatron Process User Guide.

Thanks,
Joe
