John, I am re- powering my boat from a Bukh SME10 sail drive . I was wondering what the Association recommends as the horsepower for a replacement engine . I am looking at Yanmar 15 horsepower (2YM15) and have seen another Cav 28 re powered with Nanni 14 horsepower. Is this horsepower appropriate and not overpowering the boat? ( I guesstimate the hull speed at 6.5).

Your thoughts most welcome .

Hi Graeme - I have a Nanni 14 HP diesel & it seems to be just fine - definitely not overpowered! Yes - we do around 6.5 knots with a clean bottom at full power.

I also have had a Nanni 14 hp diesel in Scylla since new in 2000, and it has been great apart from an initial problem with the heat exchanger

Thanks for your replies I will proceed with the Yanmar which really is 14 hp as well.
