For Mac OSX, applications are packaged as a dmg image. You can open it,
doubleclick on the application icon, and it starts.

If a package contains command line applications, doubleclicking will
start the application in a terminal window. So far, so good.

Is it possible to start such a command line application from an
arbitrary shell script?

Hi,

I assume you mean after the 'dmg' is mounted? In that case as an example
using Cava Packager console app, it would be mounted at

"/Volumes/Cava Packager/Cava Packager.app/Contents/MacOS/cavaconsole"

If you want to mount the dmg from a script too, look at 'man hdiutil'.

Hope it helps

Thanks. I did find out myself some time later, and wanted to answer my own question but somehow I do not get emails from this group anymore...
