Ifyou've got some Kindle books, you've likely heard that they come with Amazon's Kindle DRM, which locks your books into Kindle devices and kindle reading apps. But as a consumer, when we have already paid these files, why should we be stopped from reading them just because we didn't buy a Kindle but an iPad or a Kobo e-ink reader instead? This deeply hurts us. Right?

So if you want to read Kindle books on non-Kindle devices or apps, the perfect solution is to remove the DRM. And in fact, it is also the best way to protect your purchases and enables you to read your own books more freely. Additionally, it allows you to back up, copy, print, and share Kindle books with friends.

But, how to? You may have wondered this problem for a while. Don't worry, this article will introduce 3 ways to remove drm from Kindle books. Keep reading to learn how to liberate your kindle books best.

To begin with, firstly I strongly recommend you get your kindle books prepared on your computer. If you have the Kindle e-ink device, you can just download Kindle books via your Kindle device. If you do not have Kindle device, you have to install Kindle App(Kindle for PC/Mac desktop, or Kindle Cloud Reader web app). Launch the Kindle app, log in with your own amazon account, then all your purchased files in kindle store would be synced. Choose those files you want to deal with, double click on book cover, then downloading begins. Once you have done that, you can close the app, find your downloaded books files at destination folder (kindle content folder location).

If your kindle books are downloaded via Kindle desktop app, import your downloaded Kindle books to Calibre, then the DRM will be removed automatically. But if you've previously added books to calibre that with drm, you'd better import them again. Job done, you can click "click to open" at the right side, to get a preview in calibre library.

Update: (Due to a change in DRM) Calibre DeDRM plugins will no longer work with Kindle KCR format eBooks. In other words, it doesn't work for converting kindle KCR books(most of them are manga / comics / photo books) on Mac.

Run KindleBooks.pyw, then input the information related to Kindle Books: input file, output file, and Kindle.info. As your kindle ebooks has been downloaded to your computer via Kindle for PC/Mac, so it is easy to find the Kindle.info, because it will be created when the desktop application installed.

Then the kindle books downloaded via Kindle for PC or Mac will be displayed under Kindle column in the left sidebar, while the Kindle books downloaded via Kindle devices will be displayed under Kindle Device column in the left sidebar after connecting Kindle e-ink reader to computer.

My theater group wants to stage a play. Unfortunately, the book we need does not exist in our country, Ecuador. The only place we find it is on Amazon, available to download for Kindle. Not all members of our theater group have a Kindle or a tablet to have the text available, so the most convenient thing is to print it. However, transferring a Kindle file to print is almost an impossible task.

I tried to convert the book to pdf with the Caliber software, but it didn't recognize the book. I installed two plug-ins, one for Caliber to read KFX files and another to remove DRMs, but nothing. It was still useless. Also, I looked for converters online and they all failed.

Looking for more solutions, I came across Epubor Ultimate and it blew me away. I installed it, ran it and, immediately, it found the Kindle file, without me having to search for it, I hit convert and it converted it to PDF without any complications, without doing anything else, with one click, as if it were magic.

hello please help me

i tried first method of calibre and i still getting error evan i installed successfully plugin in calibre but when i add drm book i got error

second i installed epubor and when i add drm book azw i got invailed format error also

Thank you for using our software. For downloading kindle cloud reader, you just need to open the book and a downloading progress will show at the bottom right corner. Then just keep this book open until the download finished.

If you have no way to download kindle cloud reader books, then kcr converter will not convert them.

There is a set of Python scripts for removing DRM from several different eBook formats, including Kindle's. One of them (called KindleBooks) allows you to remove the DRM without needing Kindle for PC. Instead it just uses the serial number from the Kindle they were purchased for to decode the books. It worked great for books downloaded on my Kindle 2.

It also has handy plugins for calibre, which is open source software for reading and converting various eBook formats as well as syncing to many different kinds of eBook readers. I highly recommend it.

The above tools work great on Linux, and should work fine on Mac OS X too as they are all Python-based. In order to run them, you will need to install Python for Windows or Mac (which comes with Python, but apparently has older versions), or make sure you have packages for Python and its Tk binding installed on your Linux system.

Recently, I de-drm'd our family's collection of purchased Kindle e-books using skindle. The link is to a blog post giving step-by-step instructions for using it. It's Windows only and relies on having an installed version of Kindle for PC.

As on installation it will immediately update itself to the latest version,it is recommended to install it while Internet is turned off, and disableauto-update in the Options before connecting to your account.

After turning on the Internet and connecting to your account, download yourbooks to the computer. They will by default be found in the folderC:\Users\USER\Documents\My Kindle Content and have strange names.

Adding the .azw book to Calibre will automatically invoke theDeDRM tools to undo the DRM, and the book will be added to your Calibre library, where you may read it with the supplied viewer, or convert it to another format.

I stopped being able to remove DRM on kindle books using epubor on a mac about 15 months ago. DRM removal for kobo books is much easier, and they read pretty well on Kindle once converted to the right format.

Or you can use an OCR tool and create your own file with the text. You can use your phone with the free Google Lens App for example. Just scan some pages of text copy it into a note and then import it in a lingq lesson.

I know it is not optimal but better than nothing. If you want to automate that, you can do it on PC with an OCR tool of your choice and a macro generator. I did that with some spanish kindle books back than.

@bstein I wish I had read your comment sooner. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out Calibre, and then it kept crashing. Finally, I bought Epubor Ultimate two days ago, and that has worked great. I am also using a Mac.

I recommend Epubor to anyone less tech savvy, like myself, than many people on here. Yes, there is cost, but I will get plenty of use out of it, and it will transform my learning experience. So it is definitely worth it.

I am now trying to figure out how to edit the lessons, etc., to make the book format on LingQ mirror the original chapters, if that is possible. I will inquire about that in a separate post, although that issue is more cosmetic than anything. Simply getting DRM-protected content into LingQ was the big battle.

If you have tried to remove DRMs with Calibre in the past and failed, your prayers have been heard. This is the final article you will ever need to remove Kindle, epub, or ebook DRMs, for free.

Hi there, i waas looking for a way to do this on this date, but amazon reinforced the DRM algorithm (sorry about my english) and no longer possible. But if you install the kindle for Windows in your PC later you can downgrade it with Epubor Ultimate (no need to purchase this program, use it in trial) so you can downgrade kindle to the 1.32 version. In that version you can have the books in the AZW format instead of the AZW3 that is the newer version, if you get that right, this method will work just fine. Did it today. Thanks a lot for the tutorial.

I understand that I need to read and mark up .mobi, .epub, kindle & apple books in their respective external apps, but I wondered if there is a way to import these files into Devonthink in order to have DT search the full texts of the documents alongside my PDFs and other documents.

DT is fine with DRM-free .epub files, but not .mobi or DRM-protected formats. But you can convert .mobi to .epub in Calibre, and DeDRM can strip DRM from older (pre-2023) Kindle books so that you can convert those too.

I purchase some books in Kindle format, but the bulk of my Bible study books are in Logos or other Bible software formats, plus I've also purchased some books in Apple Books format, which Kindle obviously cannot natively read due to DRM and the different formats.

1. What would be the easiest way to get Logos books (or other non-Kindle format books) onto a Kindle device? Would PDF be the best route to go? I would probably need to send book files to the Kindle in batches (possibly per-chapter) to work around copyright restrictions.

6. Are there any advantages to reading exported Logos books on a Kindle device versus a 10.5" iPad Pro? I love my iPad Pro, and it does an excellent job for reading, as well as for getting some work done on the go (where I haven't needed to carry a notebook with me most places now). However, the 10.5" iPad Pro is a large, bright screen, and battery life still needs to be charged at least once a day, plus with the other apps and notifications, it's easy to rabbit trail unless I switch on DND.

If you mean the later, you would not need to convert anything... you would simply run the FL Android apps. If you mean the former, there are tutorials for converting Logos books. It isnt hard, but it isnt "push a button" quick either. NOTE: having a Logos book on a Kindle eInk device is great for simple reading, but you can't transfer notes/highlights back.
