The Snow White apple was developed over seven years by Northern Research and Development (Northern R&D) of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and the R&D Association of the Galil region. The apple was presented at an agricultural conference this week.
The lead researcher on the project was the late Nicolai Sindler, who emigrated to Israel from Finland after the Yom Kippur War. He was not able to see the final product marketed, but their sweet flavor will always be a reminder of the man, who dedicated himself to Israel and to the Golan Heights.
We add in baby arugula, dried cranberries, honeycrisp apples, and toasted pepitas (or any nut you like!). Drizzle over some of the dressing and give everything a gentle toss.
If you want, you could make this a full meal buy adding in some cooked chicken, cannellini beans or chickpeas, or even some crumbles of feta or goat cheese. I think the cheese would especially be fantastic. For this recipe, though, I wanted to provide you with the base. Make it your own!
We sell apple seedlings in various apple varieties which are hybridized with genetic modifications, which perform far better than the original variety. We provide apple seedlings from Israel and Wanbugu that have been grafted, and they have the following advantages:
An essential step in the development of premium apples on your farm is the planting of apple seedlings. We provide genetically altered hybrid kinds that perform far better than their unaltered counterparts.
The Wambugu Variety has the following characteristics.
In hot and warm climates, the semi-arid apple varieties perform best.
To grow it well, it only needs manure and water.
Every nine to thirteen months, harvest time occurs.
They thrive in temperatures as high as 360C.
It matures in 9 to 14 months.
310 plants are required for an acre.
It has two seasons a year beginning in July, August, December, and January, and bears up to 500 to 2000 fruits on each tree every season.
Apple Seedlings Being Planted
Apple seedlings are little tree stems that have been reproduced and grafted onto a robust rootstock. When seedlings have grown in a propagation environment for roughly a year, they are prepared to be planted and grown in the home landscape. Six to ten years after planting, the seedlings develop into an apple tree that bears fruit. Growing apple trees can be lucrative if they are planted and cared for properly from the seedling stage onward.
Dig a 2-foot-wide hole and amend the planting area by adding even amounts of organic compost to the excavated soil. Apple trees prefer full sunlight, nutrient-rich soil, and a good drainage system. Surround the tree sapling with this soil. Excess soil will be available for disposal.
Anna is a Golden Delicious-style apple, developed in Israel specifically for cultivation in "low-chill" areas where winter temperatures rarely drop to freezing. Most apple varieties require around 800 hours or more of winter temperatures in the range from about 6C / 45F down to freezing, in order to become properly dormant, which is an essential part of their annual cycle - this is the "chill requirement". Anna has an exceptionally low chill requirement, and will thrive even in climates where temperatures dip towards freezing for only 300 hours or so each winter. This makes it ideally suited to climates such as southern California and southern Texas which are in USDA zones 8-10.
Anna is likely to flower in February in zones 9 or above. It is often paired with Dorsett Golden, another low-chill apple variety, however Dorsett Golden flowers later, and the flowering times do not always overlap.
