As you know, I love 1940s and 1950s clothing and accessories. Everything from hats to dresses, to jewellery to shoes. But, what would a closet of vintage clothing be without some 50s circle skirts? Empty, just plain empty!
In 1947, American designer Juli Lynne Charlot created the first circle skirt with felt appliques in a Christmas theme. Charlot created more skirts for resale, which sold very quickly out of stores. She then went on to create circle skirts in a variety of themes (adding poodles) and the circle skirt trend was born!
All children need to be surrounded by love, especially those who have recently experienced the death of a loved one. LifePath Hospice recognizes the special needs of these children and has created Camp Circle of Love. This weekend camp for children, ages five through high school, helps those who have recently lost a loved one share their feelings of loss with others. The experience combines healing with fun, letting children know that life still has a lot to offer.
Camp Circle of Love is an amazing experience for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Along with traditional camp activities, campers also participate in therapeutic activities throughout the weekend. These activities help the campers process their grief, build relationships with others and have some fun in the process!
I am a poet-artist, child psychiatrist, and mental health advocate. My now 32 year old daughter Emma drew this picture of us when she was a little girl and I added the poem. It took me six decades to fully see the full, true, metaphorical, and creative meaning of "circle of love" and when I did in May 2019, I commissioned Amanda Meador to do this design! This Circle of Love poem and image can include your own family drawing or family photo, and is available as Mother Love and Father Love. I would love to see Circle of Love honoring all families across the world! If you are interested in this humanitarian project, please let me know at artsme...@hotmail.com. Thank you!
I like to to mount a transparent shield on the drill press table when using a circle cutter like this. In part if keeps chips from flying in my face as I make the cut. It also makes it difficult to put my hands (or nose) in the way of the cutter.
What about using the lathe and the Circle Cutter together? If you have a drill chuck for your lathe, you could chuck the Circle Cutter in the lathe. The Circle Cutter could be stationary and the wood could spin. You could have the best of both worlds, without having the circle cutter spinning around!
"The shower of love letters has been pouring in for Rose. The blessings that they bring and peace and love and comfort from them is something to experience. My mother n law is recovering from her stroke and each night I read them to her in the ICU. I ask her if she can hear me and she nods her head yes. It brings tears to my eyes that the sweetness of the writers brings. They are so caring, kind, loving, and creative. There was one with a picture of Amma on it and I laid it on her chest. I knew that Amma knew what was going to happen when I asked for the cards for her before her stroke. I felt the peace of her love washing over our mom with her motherly tenderness. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your loving service to have this program for the comfort of all people. I cannot believe I get to witness the way it feels for the letters to come to someone"
Compassion is the foundation of Peace - Amma
The importance of writing letters, card, and praying with our recipients is a continuous exchange of connection in love.
As I embrace this 4th of July I am reminded that Independence is a sense of relief. In those brief moments of relief, I can breathe and then
Do the next right thing. Without that moment, I feel alone, scared, and overwhelmed.
Please take a moment and feel the love we are sending to each and every one of you both sending and receiving cards, letter, and prayers.
We are both so grateful to you and your service. That service has had a great impact on our lives.
Circle of love continues to write to people who have experienced loss, health problems and isolation. This past quarter 85 letters were sent weekly, and more than 20 letter showers were sent. If you feel letters from supportive folks would help you, please ask for info. We not only need writers but recipients too.
Writers report they are happy to find a way to serve and feel blessed. A writer recently said "writing saved her life". She was experiencing depression, but the act of thinking of others, relieved her depression and helped to stop her suicidal thinking.
Circle of Love letters continues to write to people in need of support. If you know of someone who could use loving support, please let us know. We can send one time letter showers and/or weekly letters, as needed. Email us at circleofl...@hotmail.com.
Here is a recent quote from someone who both writes and receives letters : "Knowing that someone cares is a wonderful thing. I appreciate receiving and giving letters both. It is a challenge for me to have chronic illness with disability, so I understand how important sharing love is. I count my blessings to be a part of the Circle of Love program."
"Dear Circle of Letters.......... I am so eternally grateful for every single letter full of so much love and care. My heart feels peace, love and pure joy. Thank you so much! May Amma's grace always shower upon you all. A big pile of letters arrived on a tough day, and it instantly helped me settle. I have not been very good with receiving, but getting sick brought me to my knees and I have learned to open my heart to myself as well. Every single letter of love is so very precious to me in more ways that I can explain."
Because of the isolation of covid we have had a good number of people asking for letters due to loneliness and depression.
This month 64 sevites (volunteers) wrote 113 letters each week to people who live in their homes. The volunteers also sent letter showers to four recipients. We also had several new volunteers who wanted to serve from home safely. We wrote 60 people weekly letters to remind them that they are not alone and that they are loved.
If you know someone who could benefit from letters please let us know. If you want to know more about participating in this seva, you can learn more by contacting us at
circleofl...@hotmail.com.
I also feel very blessed to have received love and support when I asked to receive letters during hard times such as when my mom passed away... the warmth of outpouring love and friendships from the writers sustained me during these challenging times. I learnt not just to give but also to receive.
We'd argue that many of Netflix's most famous unscripted stars fall into this category, and it seems the streamer thinks so too, uniting many of their most beloved contestants for new dating show Perfect Match. Fittingly, it hits the platform on Valentine's Day so that viewers can binge with their box of chocolates.
Perfect Match brings together stars from Love Is Blind, The Ultimatum, Too Hot to Handle, The Circle, and more to take another shot at finding love. Tucked away in a tropical paradise, the famously single stars compete to form relationships. The most compatible couples will play matchmaker and stir the pot, breaking up other couples and sending them on dates with brand-new singles they'll invite to the villa.
It's a game of love, but also one of strategy to see whether the contestants can actually create better matches or just sew chaos. Hosted by Nick Lachey, the series will crown one couple as the "perfect match."
Just a dumb question probably, but can you tell me what is a good type of fabric to use for these skirts? I am just getting into the sewing thing..I have a 5 mo old little girl and would love to sew her some cute little girly clothes. Just wondering what is the best type of fabric! Thanks!
I really love this skirt! I am a beginner sewer and have a 13 mo old and would love to make this for her. The only thing I want to add to it are suspenders that cross in the back. When would you add them? Before or after the elastic? Could you maybe do a tutorial on this?
Darker-skinned people are more prone to general hyperpigmentation anywhere on the body, like dark circles or blemishes, according to a Mayo Clinic analysis. That discolouration appears more prominent because we have more melanin. I can't name a single individual in my family who doesn't have dark circles. In a 2014 Teen Vogue story, make-up artist Kirin Bhatty notes that the "number one concern" she hears from Middle Eastern and South Asian teenage girls is about their dark circles.
With my realization that I actually preferred my face with my dark circles than without, I posted a selfie to my Instagram stories. I declared a rare moment of "you know what, I love my dark circles today." Maybe I just needed a little final convincing. Within the hour, a torrent of friends and acquaintances had responded, all of them women of colour, telling me how they had recently fallen in love with theirs, and how I had given them the convincing they needed. Half of them sent selfies, beautiful darkly circled selfies. It was as if we were all somehow on the same self-love precipice at the same exact time.
Maybe because a string of other historically "ethnic" features, from bigger curves to thicker eyebrows, have recently gone from being condemned by Western beauty standards to coveted. Perhaps dark circles could be next. But why wait for society to arbitrarily decide what it once and often told us needed to be hidden is a symbol of modern beauty?
