So via Barron's superlative performance we enter Didion's vision of the final years of the '60s, which is not one of aromatic flower power, so much as a jittery sensation of the ground adjacent to a volcano vibrating. Hers was never a romanticised view of what had been or could have been, but one of what actually happened with the Doors self-sabotaging their way towards a third album, with African Americans adopting a more combative response to endless oppression, with Sharon Tate and the rest being brutally murdered by Manson's family of freaks.

The Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack sings out at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the set debuts atop the list. The album, which was released on May 12 through Universal Music Enterprises, moved 107,000 units in the week ending May 17, according to Nielsen Music.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

The recent Oscar-winner (All Quiet on the Western Front) returns to his signature keyboard approach, plus electronics, for his latest album, Philanthropy, out Friday. "I'm using these analog guitar pedals that I'm feeding while I'm playing, and I have a little mixing board next to the piano," he explains to NPR. "The piano is the sound source, but I can create electronic music with an analog instrument."

He describes his work on the album like that of a visual artist. "You can see me in front of a canvas and I'm painting, let's say, with 10 colors. Then I take a spoon and I scratch the color back off the canvas. So in some areas, I reach the very first color and in other areas I have a mixture of all ten," he explains. "I'm not working first on the composition and then recording it. I'm recording first, and then I'm working on the composition."

"Loved Ones," one of the album's singles, is more introspective, with string accompaniment by cellist Laura Wiek. The melody is sparse and melancholic. "Melancholy is not a negative thing," Hauschka insists. "It's actually involving both sadness and happiness at the same time. Both have to coexist next to each other, and then I feel alive somehow." He came up with the tune while thinking about the caring people around him. "They are not many, but the ones you can count on, they should be very strong," he adds.

The concert includes the songs from Jackie's chart-topping first full-length studio album Dream With Me, produced by the legendary David Foster, plus two bonus tracks that were performed in concert, but not seen on the PBS Special which aired in June.

The Dream With Me album debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #2 and was certified Gold after only four weeks of release. In addition, due to the huge success of the June PBS pledge, Jackie Evancho's "Dream With Me Live - Great Performances PBS Special" - continues to be a major PBS hit during the August pledge period. Since its premiere in June, the program has received an unprecedented number of nearly 2,000 broadcasts to-date and with coverage in over 90% of all US TV households. The program is airing coast-to-coast and in at least 45 states from all four corners: New York, Miami, to Seattle and Los Angeles and also everywhere in between, and even including Honolulu! Nearly 75% of airings are in primetime or top time slots. The Pledge Drive for PBS continues through August and into September. Check with your local PBS station or check local listings for broadcast dates and times.

It's been a busy - and heady - year for Jackie: a holiday EP, O Holy Night, that sold 1.5 million copies; the debut release of her first full-length album, Dream With Me; a sold out tour of concert halls across the country, where she performed with well-known Symphonies and Orchestras; and the PBS "Great Performances" Special that is the basis of the new DVD.

Both the Dream With Me album and DVD feature a repertoire of operatic arias and pop classics handpicked to suit Jackie's pitch-perfect voice. Her range is so great that she is comfortable singing the Disney classic "When You Wish Upon A Star," followed by a spine-chilling rendition of Puccini's "Nessun Dorma." Equally as thrilling is Jackie's emotional interpretation of the classic Sarah McLachlan song, "Angel."

For the Dream With Me album, Foster brought in two equally-gifted performers to duet with Jackie - Barbra Streisand, whom he worked with on a version of the stunning Leonard Bernstein work, "Somewhere" (from West Side Story), and Susan Boyle, who teamed up with Jackie for a poignant rendition of "A Mother's Prayer."
