My Macbook Pro suddenly shut down and is not turning on, no chime, no Apple logo. There was no exposure to water. (However, I had kept a steaming bowl of hot water right next to the laptop. But this was in an open kitchen)
The Pro had less than 10% charge when it suddenly shut down. I charged it for another 10 minutes and tried to switch on, but no luck. I charged it completely till the magsafe indicator turned green, still does not turn on. So assumed that the battery is charging fine. I opened the mac and saw no visible corrosion or moisture(two tiny dots below the battery case are white and haven't turned red)
When trying to attempt to boot it, press the trackpad. If it clicks, the MacBook is coming on (but is not displaying picture, chiming or another issue), if not, the MacBook is completely dead, which will be an issue with the logic board. The force touch trackpads will only click when the MacBook is on, so this is a good indicator when diagnosing these.
@Madhu: Does your Macbook work again? I have a similar issue. Apple says that I am out of warranty and the German shop notebooksbilliger.de don't feel the need to repair my MBP (finally I consulted a lawyer).
I have the same problems TODAY. No response from Mac Pro 13 Retina Early 2015 after holding down the power button. I try the SMC reset . Plug out the AC power. HOLD THE KEYS: SHIIFT, CONTROL, OPTION, AND POWER SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR 10 SECS. THEN Release. Hold down Power button for 15secs. It power up again. IT works !
Hi, I have the exact problem you do. My MB Air will startup normally if I leave the internal battery connection unplugged and just use the charging cord with the amber light on. The Air will start normally even if I shut it down (sleep as well) and plug the charger cord in and push the power on button.
I indeed seem have an issue with the power button but as long as I maintain charge in the battery I don't have to use the power button, I can just easily continue to put it to sleep and waking it back up using just the lid. Oh and I can also restart without any problems. It's only when I let battery die, or shutdown, that I have to open laptop, disconnect the battery, and repeat the process.
For someone who doesnt work with all those method my macbook pro got green light on mag safe charger but always show up with red charger icon , try quickly move a bit of the charger then turn on suddenly ! I know its weird but its work for me
Im having to do the same process of taking the back off and disconnect the battery and plugging into a wall outlet its really annoying but it does work,in this state my macbook is probably worth less then $100. Wondering what to do from here ? Buy new battery?
You have to unplug the battery and plug it back in it will automatically start up don't let it shut off keep it charged keep it going cuz if it turns off going to have to unplug the battery and do all that again and that's a ##&&% taking that back off at everything so leave the motherfuker charging and you'll be good to go
I've got a A1990 (2019 MBP) that doesn't power up, Tried everything possible (without opening the case), nothing works. It's on Apple care, but i am stuck on a little island, not even mail in repair possible from here. Even without the virus the next possible service center is far far away.
Also it caused some troubles over the last few months, the keyboard / touchpad was not detected after sleeping and it turned off a few times at around 30-50% charge. Maybe that indicates something else like the battery?
I am also facing the same problem. My macbook pro is just 3 months old and it is just dead. No response, nothing seem to work. Everything seems to be dead. No response coming from charger connection, cpu fans, any of the port's.etc.
Still it did not work. It does not turn on the fan nor attempt to turn on the fan but when I connect a phone charger, and press the power button, it quickly charges but suddenly stops charging. However when the Macbook's power adapter is connected, it charges the phone charger and continues charging. I also did resetting the NVRAM which is OPTIONS+COMMAND+P+R but still would not work.
i dont know if this will help i had the same issue and nothing seemed to work all day i read loads of documents but still no joy with any of hte methods however the bit htat stuck in my mind for my 2016 mbp was htat the track pad was clicking for about 2 secods and then just tuen off. so i turned on the devise and just kept tapping on the track pad non stop till it booted . alsas it came on and im currently trying to reinstall a. new version of mojave
My MBP 2016 Touch bar does not power up. I have tried all the solutions in this page, still no success. When I press the power button, the Trackpad works, also external CD drive or USB sticks are light up and working, but nothing else. Strangely when I disconnect the battery from the logic board, both fans start working. stuck with this machine.
Since that day, the MBP had never turned on again or given any sign of life. I tried all solutions I could find, SMC/PRAM reset, battery disconnect, tried another battery/magsafe. I even opened up the case multiple times to see if I could find anything strange, but havent found anything yet. No liquid damage, no loose or broken connectors, nothing.
It is probably the logic board. But you can also disconnect all the connectors and see if it starts. Open the case and disconnect everything to the logic board, especially the left I/O card, then try a few times to start it and see if it comes on. Then reconnect each connector and see which one causes it to shut off again. That would indicate where the problem is.
The SMC is the system management controller. Resetting the SMC is a similar operation to resetting the NVRAM. Apple recommends resetting it to fix issues with power, battery, fans, and other features. The process is slightly different for different types of Mac.
I am trying this bettertouchtool option now. looks like its possible. i think alot of the issues are the constant updates. alot of the apps out there for this specifically are old versions (obviously since apple did away with it). but this should be interesting. thank you ! will update
how do i completely disable? turn off the horrendous, hideous touch bar, on my macbook pro (1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3)
let alone from taking the cover off if i have too, and ripping it out. ive tried most. its amazing that i cant find anyone who can. PLEASE HELP ITS BLINDING ME (it just flickers)
Thank you for the workaround! I appreciate it. I previously spoke with Apple Customer Support and they told me it was necessary to find an actual wired keyboard to use. Fortunately, I had one but your solution is much more elegant. However, it does not negate the fact that the instructions given for resetting the PRAM/NVRAM in the article only seem to cover laptops.
DO NOT EVER "REFLOW" T2 or any other chips, even if you seen someone did it it "magically worked". If you found this page, probably you are suspecting T2 issue, so even if DFU won't help you - DON'T REFLOW T2.
The moral of the story here, is before you attempt a DFU restore, for something that could be T2, attempt to rule out everything else before the restore, as you could brick the unit, and be in a worse condition.
Rule out parts or any other board issue that is possible before DFU restoring the unit. There are many things that can cause a DFU restore to fail. The problem is, if you fail a DFU restore, you may end up in a different error state than your original issue. For example:
Now you're in Failure State A, and you decided to force the unit into DFU, and attempt a restore. At this point, it would fail, and you would be stuck in recovery, let's call this Failure State B. Now you're at Failure State B, it makes it 10x harder to diagnose Failure State A, simply because you can't follow the power structure anymore. At this point, if you find you're short on PP3v3_G3H and remove it, you would have to restore again and PRAY that it works. It does not always. There have been many cases, where the unit came in with liquid damage, clearly a Failure State A type of situation, but the client attempted to restore before sending it, making it into a Failure State B. It seems half the time, after I fix Failure A, that I am able to get out of Failure B after restore. The half that is unsuccessful, is, I'm sure because of a damaged trace or something like that - however, with it being in recovery, or Failure State B, it's much harder to diagnose.
Make sure Mac is shut down (hold power button for 5 seconds). Plug in data cable to Host Mac (any port) then into the left port closest to track pad in the Target Mac. Hold right shift + left option + left control + power keys simultaneously for about 3 seconds (according to Apple, other sources say 4-8 seconds). NOTE: We found that if you press the power button for 1 one thousand and then simultaneously hold the right shift + left option + left control, you should be successful each time. We also found that we were able to get in DFU mode around 4 to 6 (one one thousand, etc.) seconds. The Target Mac will remain as a black screen but you should see the DFU box pop up in Apple Configurator window on the Host Mac.
Make sure Mac is shut down (hold power button for 5 seconds). Plug in data cable to Host Mac (any port) then into the left-side port closest to the screen in the Target Mac. Press the power button for about half a second, then also press and hold Left Control + Left Option + Right Shift for 10 seconds, then release all keys except power and hold power until the Target Mac shows up in Apple Configurator on the Host Mac.For Intel Mac mini and iMac Pro - Disconnect power cord fro
