Hi everyone,
I’m Hazel, currently doing my Master’s in Computer Science at Northeastern University. I had the chance to work at a couple of well-known game companies before grad school, and I’ve always loved combining creativity with code — especially when it comes to drawing, storytelling, and making games that mean something.
When I saw the “Awesome Demo Game on Marine Biology” idea, I got really excited. I love functional games, and I started thinking about how to make something fun, visual, and accessible around the theme of ocean conservation. Just to explore the idea a bit, I made a small Scratch demo. I drew all the pixel art myself , and played around with open-source sounds and simple mechanics to test out the vibe.
It’s nothing fancy, more of a warm-up to get into the mindset. But it helped me realize how much I’d love to take this further, especially with guidance. If I get the chance to be part of GSoC, I’d be really excited to start fresh and build something more thoughtful and complete, together with your team.
I’d love to learn more about how I can align my skills with the project goals. Thank you for reading and for offering such a meaningful project this year.
Warmly,
Hazel
