Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences intends to train scientists and academicians who can represent our country that is taking significant steps to be a regional and global power in the world that is rapidly getting smaller and globalized on national and international arenas in the field of social sciences successfully. The faculty also aims to train students and equipped with information and skills, familiar with universal values in addition to local values, open to technological innovations, aware of the significance of scientific research and development.
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences consisting of 13 departments and 46 sub-fields intends to train high qualified work force Turkey requires in almost all areas of social sciences, offer modern education in these fields embodying diverse disciplines within its body. The faculty also intends to conduct studies in various areas concerning humanity and society and turn the theoretical information to be obtained from these studies into practice in such a way to answer the needs of the society. Another intention of the faculty is to give direction to modern thinking, culture and art for the benefit of the society and to offer interdisciplinary courses required by the faculties within the body of the university.
Philosophy discipline, one of the most important area in social sciences, questions the existence adventure of humanity on earth and the relationship between God and human beings and gives direction to human thought by making the answer it provides to these questions into a rule within a systematic logic. Philosophy that dates back to the history of humanity has been developed by the philosophers of various nations, religions, cultures and civilisations in almost all ages. By reasoning in many diverse areas such as philosophies of Ancient Greece, India, the Far East, Islam, logic, history of science, history of philosophy, state-society philosophy, communication philosophy, language philosophy, science philosophy, modernism, postmodernism, aesthetics art, mind philosophy, technology of environment philosophy, human rights and philosophy of art starting with philosophies of ancient ages, the discipline of philosophy has reached the present day without losing its significance for the history of humanity, society, states and nations. Philosophy, the key for questioning and critical thinking, has a distinguished place in all phases of humanity. Department of Philosophy consisting of the compilation of ancient and modern philosophy aims to provide great contribution to Turkish Thinking Life. Here are the sub-fields of the department:
Psychology is a branch of science that handles the intellectual processes human beings undergoes and their reflection and opposites in the behaviours. The discipline of psychology that can be regarded as a new branch compared with many branches of sciences, has a significant place not only in social sciences but also in medical sciences. Psychology that studies intellectual and emotional processes that constitute based on various variables is concerned not only with normal behaviour of people, but also abnormal behaviours that mend fences of the relationship of the individual oneself and others. The department that is divided into sub-fields such as social psychology, experimental psychology, development psychology and applied psychology has been established with the purpose of training qualified psychologists requires at our country.
Consciousness of history, language and geography are the main components that sustain a nation. It is a well-known fact that the nations deprived of this consciousness cannot sustain their existence. The discipline of history, one of the major disciplines of social sciences, aims to shape future from past within the framework of research and analysis methods required by science of history. Turkish history, that has s significant place in General World, is a rich history covering the history of a wide geography such as Central Asia, the Balkans, Africa, Middle East, especially Anatolia. In this context, constitution of a national history consciousness is crucial. Department of History that has a close relation with the departments of philology, geography and Turkish Language and Literature has been established within the body of our faculty. Graduates of the programme will gain the ability to approach social communication through the mass media with a critical point of view, learn to develop research design in the field of social sciences, learn research methods and recognize basic research trends in the field of media and communication studies.
The course is aimed at introducing specific methodology in the field of social sciences in general and communication and media studies in particular. The methods used in communication studies and the techniques of data collection are reviewed and their compatibility with the research problematique is assessed.
