No littler box related, but still cat related:
Af loosing one cat last September, another of our cats has been diagnosed with FIP. The little guy doesn’t look or behave sick, but chances for a fasle positive diagnosis are pretty slim. This is a terminal disease, and things can go south very quickly. Prednisolon can stretch his expected lifetime a bit, but full recoveries are very rare.

Recently, a very promising drug to treat FIP was in development, but due to a lack of funding research has stopped. This drug is ofter referred to as GS-441524. Test results during development were very promising:

Does anybody in this group have experience in treating their cat with this substance?

If you are out of options... some people have success stories administering colloidal silver to their cat with FIP. We've had success giving it to our cat with chronic bacterial inflammation at her gum line. Doc said it's a genetic thing with her. She went from a weak dying cat to about 70% recovered. We dialed down the dose after she reached a good point. I recommend doing some research before going this route.

Our cat will drink a bit of milk with the stuff mixed in, otherwise it would be a pita administering it to her. You can buy it off of amazon for a reasonable price. Wet cat food (the very runny kind) might work for administering.

This might give some encouragement, hope so...

This Virus is not the same as the  "China" Virus Corona,,  corona viruses (COVID-19) !!!!

I find it is easiest to administrate water and diluted solids with a plastic  hypodermic syringe, available at Drug stores and etc. Water is extremely important to any Cat especially if they have Diarrhea. The Silver is much thought to be an urban legend and certainly my - could stress the Kidneys and thin Intestinal walls.

Getting your Cat to relax and trust you when administering liquids can be a challenge. I teach mine when their well, it's a lot tougher when their ill. I use their favorite, Chicken Broth from cooking on a covered pan with a lid. Just a few drops at the edge of the Lips using gets things rolling. I use a small blender to pulverize solid meats and add water, and slightly warm. I start with  their favorites. No Milk from Cattle it will give them Diarrhea, only Goats milk if you must.

Most know that Cats are experts at Observation, so Be relaxed and don't show any stress or worry.,, be happy happy. It's not easy. Remember that you will out out  Pheromones and Cats can smell them and can read their caregivers like a Book !!

Here's the Quote,

"Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease that occurs worldwide in wild and domestic cats. It is caused by a type of virus called a coronavirus, which tends to attack the cells of the intestinal wall. In 1970, the coronavirus that causes FIP was isolated and characterized. In 1981, another coronavirus was isolated. Although this virus is nearly identical to the FIP virus, cats who were infected with it developed only very mild diarrhea and recovered easily."

Best of Luck,

Michael..

I don’t think I said it was… However, it is _a_ corona virus, and it is even related to SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV. There is even an ongoing investigation on using it on the virus causing the current Covid-19 outbreak, but none of that is not the topic of this post.

What I need are people’s experiences in treating FIP with GS-441524, for practical information like for example reliable sources, but also for statistics.

I’m not really sure where you’re going here; GS-441524 is an injectable fluid, ready to go.

Our cats don’t even like milk. Not even the milk specially for cats.
But true; Liquid medicine is easily applied by pulling back their lips a dropping it on their teeth.

Perhaps.

There’s lots of information about this on the Internet. But I am not schooled to understand medical literature. And the rest of the stories are interpretations by people I know nothing about, and may just as well be making it up. That’s why I need people with experience.

I’m currently exploring the Facebook groups people here suggested earlier.

Hi Robert,

My wife's best friend used the product you are asking about and it cured her cat or at least I believe it did. Im not sure how they test. Her cat is recovered and well.

The brand she used was Mutian.

It costed thousands of dollars but who can put a price on love.

Let me know if you have any specific questions for her.

I have read about that brand. It’s one of the most expensive ones among its kind.

When given the choice, I’d rather spend the money on something else. But it’s what you said. And I cannot just sit here and watch my cat-buddy die.

Let me know if you have any specific questions for her.

Thanks; I will.

her are articles from cornell University about FIP that may help.
Cornell is the leader in the USA for Feline studies.
They will teach you more then any dumbass facebook group ever will.

Thanks for the link. I’m still doing internet research and I haven’t touched Facebook yet, so there’s still hope.

Be sure to check UC Davis and the research done by Niels Pedersen. I was under the impression they were the leaders in the research on this topic.  Here is a link to many links on the topic from them including the actual clinical trials of GS 441524 and how to administer the drug and much more.

I feel the above is the best source of information on the topic but I will also be attending a webinar on the subject tomorrow. Here is a link in case you also want to attend.

Thursday,
April 30, 2020. So far there are over 700 people planning to participate.
There is still time to sign up so don't miss out. Details are:

I'm going to second the FIP Warriors Facebook group. They mentioned them in the FIP Symposium today and I checked them out and they seem like a great resource. Read the FAQ. It seems pretty straight forward.

Yes, Prof. Dr. Pedersen is the authority on FIP. He has been studying this disease for decades. And he’s is remarkably approachable; My veterinarian sent him an email and she had a reply within half a day.

I’m afraid mostly is over my head anyway. But thanks for posting it here.

I got my membership a couple of days ago. People there are very helpful.

The FAQ document of the group is very helpful, Another very useful link is this one:
