Dear Colleagues,
I like to teach students how to help themselves by sharing Web
sites with them in class and as useful tools to practice what they
want to “perfect.” From time to time, I will be sharing URLs that I
have found particularly useful for teaching pronunciation.
One Website that I particularly like is www.engvid.com. Engvid
offers videos on all aspects of English and all the teachers make you feel
they are actually talking to you. However, for TOPs, I would specifically
like to recommend two videos by Ronnie, who describes herself as a “bit of a nutter”
and says that makes her a better teacher. I think you will agree when you
see her at work.
Her takes on teaching and learning how to pronounce “r” and “l” are
very helpful. I used these recently in a class on presentation skills for
engineers and their ability to distinguish “r” from “l” significantly improved.
You will find the URLs for these two videos below.

Keep the teaching of pronunciation front and forward!
