I've come over from a Thinkpad which did not have bluetooth running in sleep mode and I'm finding this really annoying as I keep forgetting to turn bluetooth off on the laptop and my headphones keep trying to connect from the other side of the house when I'm not working.
You cannot run your aplication when the computer is in sleep mode! It does not matter if it is a thread running it. If the computer goes to sleep, the thread too will sleep. That's the point of sleep.
Also, it has several advantages over what you were trying to do. Mainly that a) your program/thread doesn't have to run/sleep 24 hours a day everyday, b) you won't be impacted by occasional Windows reboots, c) Majority of the time your computer can sleep (lower energy bill).
When I lock the screen and leave for a long time, the device still enters some kind of sleep mode. The power LED changes from blue to red and when the device wakes up, I need to input my BitLocker password again. Somehow, it seems my hard drive is put into off mode too.
By using the command powercfg /SLEEPSTUDY from the help of @harrymc and @Ramhound, I figured out the device entered Hibernate STATE with the cause System Idle from the report at C:\Users\\sleepstudy-report.html.
Thus the problem happened because Windows 11 Settings App does NOT provide a way to turn off Hibernate after timeout value. Setting Settings > System > Power > sleep: never and Power mode: Best Performance will NOT change the true Power Plan and will not disable Hibernation.
Note that if you change the plan to High performance successfully in Control Panel, The Settings App > System > Power will show a warning message "Power mode can't be set while the high performance plan is used."
So at times ive been woken up in my sleep from my phone vibrating(not ringing) from calls from contacts. Why is this? I have it set it sleep focus that no one should call. Could it possible be since i have my sleep focus turn on automatically, before it turns on it doesnt turn off whatever focus was on previously? e.g. my personal mode is on always and when the sleep focus turns on is the personal focus somehow still active in the background, because whenever my sleep focus turns off in the morning my personal focus is still on, so i suspect the focus is on in the background? And that is why the call came through because of the personal mode settings?
Computer specs: 10-12 year old laptop, it's pretty bad but fine for casual use: Celeron 900 2.2GHz, integrated graphics, 1366x768 display, 120GiB SSD; the model is something like Compaq Presario CQ56.
"Sleep" is defined as ultra-low power usage: All subsystems get turned off and consume extremely little power but can be woken up quite quickly by an external event: lid open, power button, key press, WOL packet, BIOS.
But you can log the battery just before going to sleep and then on wake up. For that you will need to add your script to .../systemd/system-sleep/ and check you sleep hooks to run it depending on you distro flavor.
The technician who set the printer up suggested disabling SNMP which I did for ALL connected PCs - but it did not really help. As soon as the printer is connected to the network the fan starts almost immediately and stays on most of the time. Which is especially annoying because the fan is - even though it is not damaged - really loud.
The engineer who came up with the crazy idea to use a high RPM 40x40mm fan to cool this little chip even though there is lots and lots of space available where a proper slow moving large fan could have been fitted should be drawn and quartered.
I am using the MacBook Air with M1 processor. I am using personal hotspot through my phone for accessing internet on the Mac Air. I see that my Mac Air remains connected to the hotspot even when the Mac Air is in sleep mode (with the lid closed down).
The following article explains that you would have to turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to save energy, which would also confirm that the Mac stays connected while in sleep mode. So if you do not want to stay connected to the Hotspot while the Mac is in sleep mode, you'd want to disconnect from the Hotspot before putting the Mac to sleep.
Some days my Epix 2 activates sleep mode non-stop without my intervention. This happens even when I am walking or cycling. So not only when sitting quietly at the computer or on the sofa. However, the Epix 2 still continues to count steps diligently. One might even wonder how one can sleep and exercise at the same time....
It seems almost as if the clock gets out of rhythm and then constantly activates the sleep mode.
Restarting the watch doesn't really help either. On the contrary, after a restart, the watch immediately goes back into sleep mode. At some point, the phenomenon disappears again for a few days and then suddenly reappears...
Since I use the watch (in addition to its main function of displaying the time) mainly for recording steps and workouts, sleep tracking is actually not important to me. But unfortunately, as far as I know, this can not be switched off completely, which would actually be my preference. This misbehavior makes an otherwise great watch pretty worthless.
In the forum I have read that other users are struggling with similar or the same issues. Does anyone know more about this issue and especially whether there is improvement in sight here?
You may think that the sleep tracking is not so important for you but did you know that the sleep tracking has an impact on the training readiness, the recovery time, and Daily suggestion.
Yeah same problems here. Still many bugs plus some hardware errors (screen flickers in dim) and still the developers not fixing many of them. Yesterday again my Epix goes in sleep mode without reason. No one listen for our problems and if they listen they reply when they want. Even if i'm hardcore Garmin fan i don't think in the future i will still continue to buy Garmin products and i already spent a ton of money.
Well that's the problem here. You already solve it without need my answer. Garmin expect from us to solve problems and bugs and not from their employers. The funny thing as i say before is i always support Garmin products and trust me here in Greece my reviews affects a lot of buyers. I don't care anymore about even post a bug here. They release the product we pay in January 2022 and still the device has bugs which affects user experience. they don't respect our money and they even delete posts here when we post something that they don't like.
The issue is that when I put the computer to sleep, everything goes off, EXCEPT the Memory. It is still stays lit in the color I have it set for. It of course does go off if I do a shutdown vs. sleep.
My, My Cloud had stopped going into HDD Standby Mode so I started a new message on here and WD contacted me and helped in checking out My Cloud and reinstalling the FirmWare. After about 48 hrs and the My Cloud had not gone to sleep plus the fact my desktop, Windows OS 7.1, had quit going to sleep too even though it was set to do so after four hours I decided to put my desktop to sleep and see what would happen. After a short time I came back and checked the My Cloud and it had gone into the Sleep Mode, blue light blinking.
You open up the Dashboard and under Settings>General>Energy Saver turn on Drive Sleep. When mine was working properly it would go into sleep mode after about ten minutes of no activity. See this video I placed on You Tube.
EDITED: I spoke too quick. While it worked for a while after getting up yesterday morning and completing the install of the latest Windows updates my My Cloud has not gone back into the sleep mode since that was completed. I am thinking there are clashes between Windows and Western Digital causing this.
I am not sure it the tech support is correct as I believe there are other users on here that have it sleeping ok. at least some made minor changes in Linux to do this. search on sleep there are a number of threads on it
I'm having an issue with my Sonos Move (or maybe it's my app) and I was hoping this group could help. Whenever my Move goes to sleep, it struggles to reconnect with my iPhone S2 app. I also have a Beam soundbar and it works great (never had an issue with it). If I put the Move it to sleep manually by tapping the power button then it will pop up in my app as asleep but when I tap it again the app thinks its still asleep. Stranger yet, when I wake it from sleep I can play music by pressing the play button or holding down the play button to sync up with my other speakers, even though the app doesn't recognize it's awake. Whenever it happens (which is frequently because I'll often pause music and come back later) the only remedy is to factory reset the Move. I've also tried troubleshooting with Sonos Support but they can't seem to fix it either. I'm coming to this group as a last ditch effort hoping someone else has had the same issue and has a suggestion they could offer.
I have a 4890dw wireless printer. It seems that every time the printer goes into sleep mode, I lose connectivity to my router. The only way therefore to print, is to either power cycle the printer and allow it to reconnect to my network, or manually reconnect to my network via the printer interface.
Currently, you cannot set infinity for auto sleep. It only allows 5-240 mins for every sleep cycle. Does anybody know of a way to circumvent this? I don't care about paying for extra electricity I just want a wireless printer that I paid good money for.
This seems to be a common theme. I see this on my MG3122 using Windows 7 via Wireless.
Once you turn it on, then turn it off and wait for all the lights to stop blinking, then turn it back on, it will print. I even have the "Auto-sleep" feature disabled and still it goes into some weird sleep mode.
