Catechesis of the Good Shepherd SonFlower Region invites you to hear Sister Irene Nowell, OSB share her work with the Saint John’s Bible.
The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten, illuminated Bible to be produced in 500 years. The Bible is being written on vellum (calfskin) and a two-page spread is a yard wide and two feet tall. Eventually these pages will be bound into seven volumes. All volumes are finished except the last.
Sister Irene Nowell works on the committee working on the illuminations and text. She says that the idea was not to illustrate the text but to illuminate it. In other words, to use insight into the meaning of the text.
The story behind this Bible is amazing!
