Hey there,
I'll be there too.  If you both turn up, I'll take out a boat with my friend who sailed hobies years ago.  If one of you can't make it and one of you does come - and don't want to single-hand, you can join she and I.  I look forward to it!  C

Hi Cathy,

Yes, I your posting made it to our inboxes - well, to mine at least!

Not sure I can make it tonight.

Pablo and I had an adventure yesterday - we had the mast come down on us when we were waaay on the other side of the lake.  The pin that held one of the shrouds to the side of the hull must have been hanging on by a thread, because as soon as we tacked it failed and the mast came down with a crash - luckily not landing on either of it.  We managed to get to the shore and jury rig it so we could sail home, but unfortunately in the course of jury rigging a way to raise the mast we damaged the mast step.  My mistake - I was a little distracted at the time.

So... I think instead of sailing tonight I may be working on that boat.

My goodness, what an adventure.  I guess whatever doesn't kill us, we learn something by!  I guess we learn from this, that when we rig these things up, we have to go through a whole check like flying a small plane.  So glad nobody was hurt.  Sooo.  Guess I'll entertain my mother then tonight, but if you're up for Sat. or Sun.  let me know.

Yes, I second that.  Sailing is exciting but sounds like you got more than you barganed for.  I, too, am glad you guys are ok.  What a story.

Oh dear! Those boats need some care; I don't think you can blame that on anyone, especially yourself.

I'm going to come tomorrow with Ben I hope. I'll be there regardless. I invited a girlfriend who doesn't sail, but takes direction well and has been a water baby for years, just in case. I may just sail if she's the only one who comes.

I'm looking forward to seeing Duncan, Andrew and anyone else who decides to come tomorrow!

Great.  I'm looking forward to sailing cats tomorrow too. I'll try to be there by 5:30.  Let's hope we have enough boats to get our own start in the races.  Who's in?

I can't be there until 6. See you then! If I don't race, I don't mind. It would just be nice if the sun came out and there was some wind :)

Will be there too. I'll be checking shrouds with a microscope this time.

Forecast is good.  Wind around 8 knots from the North and hopefully the clouds will burn off and it will be sunny.  There are wind forecasts at the following link, though I don't know whether they really mean much:

p.s. Pablo - I already went over the boats and checked the pins and rings on the shrouds.  Replaced a couple of the rings.  I got a few rolls of electrical tape and I'll go over all of them and tape over the rings.  I think the problem gets caused by the way we tie the beach wheels onto the shrouds - easy for the rings that hold the pins in place to get caught in the rope and then the rings get bent out of shape, and fall out at a bad time.
