Award-winning Israeli filmmaker, theatre director, writer and activist Udi
Ali will be speaking at UCI on November 16, 5-7pm in HIB 135.
Aloni is one of Israel's leading artists and intellectuals, an
award-winning filmmaker, and adviser to the Jenin Freedom Theatre, founded
by his friend Juliano Mer-Khamis, who was assassinated earlier this year.
He has just completed a well-received production of Waiting for Godot with
students from the Freedom Theatre which played both at Columbia University
and the Public Theatre in New York. Aloni will be discussing his new book,
What Does a Jew Want: On Binationalism and Other Specters, published by
Columbia University Press, and features contributions from Slavoj iek,
Judith Butler and Alain Badiou, as well as the current political situation
in Israel, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, and the
internal debates within the Diaspora and Israeli Jewish community.
Aloni welcomes all people to come and discuss and debate these issues in a
lengthy discussion after his talk.
This is a rare opportunity to meet one of the most important and
controversial voices in Israel talk about some of the most crucial issues
facing Israel, Palestine, the larger Middle East, and their relationship
to the global "Occupy Wall Street" movement.
