Exhaust Elbow Assembly Replacement

Hello,

I replaced the exhaust elbow assembly today.  Didn't take very long, didn't swear too much.

I bought the full assembly from HDI Marine.  They previously had a GMKit and after speaking with them, they added a YMKit for the 3YM30 to their site.

The kit had the engine gasket, lower elbow, coupler, upper exhaust elbow, and the seawater fitting.

The quality of the cast stainless seems on par with the factory unit and it arrived within 2 days.

I installed the same elbow this past spring. No problems this season. After I winterize I’ll take a peek inside it.

Hi Jeff,

After reading about this issue I was planning to do the replacement next month after I haul out for the winter. Unfortunately mine broke off yesterday. Question for you: How did you attach the exhaust hose to the upper mixing elbow? My current exhaust hose slides over the upper mixing elbow and is held in place with 2 hose clamps. The one from HDI shows internal threads in that location. Did you have to buy a hose barb fitting that screws in there?  Thanks.

Hi, I believe all the elbows have internal threads - it slides over the outside of the elbow.

Hi Eric,

 

(for some reason, each time I replied, it showed up here as a deleted message, perhaps my posts are being moderated but I apologize if multiple copies suddenly appear)

The original elbow was internally threaded also but the hose was just slipped over the outside and clamped.  The new one works the same way.
