Hey there Catalina 355 Owners & Enthusiasts;

They say the happiest days of boat ownership are the day you buy one, and the day you sell one.  Well… Amadeus has been part of our family’s story for many years. My in-laws bought the first Amadeus 30+ years ago, which was a Catalina 25.  Then, the next Amadeus was a Catalina 30.  The current iteration is our Catalina 355.  Dave Worfel, my father-in-law, the original owner of hull #94 passed away in August 2020 due to complications from a double lung transplant. During his treatment and recovery, my wife Anne and I helped by maintaining the boat for several seasons. After his passing, we purchased Amadeus from my mother-in-law to keep her in the family (the boat that is….the mother in law wasn’t optional, according to my wife). Having previously owned a Catalina 34, the transition felt natural; the size and layouts were very comparable between the two boats.  Amadeus has been an absolute joy to sail, and our six-year-old son  learned to sail aboard her. As our family has grown (we’re now a family of four, including a foreign exchange student), we’ve realized it’s time to move up to something slightly larger. The boat has been wonderful to us, but she’s simply getting a bit tight - especially when racing with a full crew.

The Short Version:

  • For Sale: “Amadeus”, hull #94 (2014 model)
  • Asking price: USD $185,000
  • Model: Catalina 355
  • Shoal Draft / Wing Keel
  • Hull number: 94
  • Year: 2014
  • Condition: Excellent. Nothing needs doing on the boat; she’s been well cared-for and family-used.
  • Federally Documented with USCG

Some highlights of Amadeus:
  • We’ve used her for a number of club races and family vacations on Lake Michigan; she’s raced competitively in our local fleet and logged substantial time on the water.
  • She’s outfitted with a cruising asymmetrical spinnaker and sock.
  • She’s traveled regularly on the Great Lakes and has very good service history (engine, rigging, sails all maintained).
  • She remains fully ready to sail and cruise—no deferred maintenance, no structural issues, nothing “hidden” to handle.
  • Family-owned, used lovingly and thoughtfully, and now looking for the next chapter under a new owner.

If you’re interested (or know someone who is) please reach out to me directly (231-225-5060 or mtma...@mtu.edu). Please don’t hit “reply” to this thread - I don’t want to unintentionally spam everyone’s inboxes.
If you know anyone interested, I would love to begin a conversation.  We have not yet engaged a broker to assist with a listing - I thought I would start here first, and cut out the middle man.  I can share further pictures, maintenance logs, and we can arrange a viewing/sea-trial. We’re open and ready to facilitate a smooth transition for the next family to enjoy Amadeus and continue her story.

Thank you all for your time and for helping us spread the word. We’ve loved our time with the Catalina 355 and we hope she finds a passionate next owner within this community.

Thank you,
Mike & Anne Maksimchuk
