Began putting domestic systems back in operation after winter on hard but was unable to get pressure in the potable water system. Have all three tanks at least half full, have all three valves for the system (one for each tank) open. The water pump runs, but sounds like it needs to be primed. No pressure at all at the galley faucet. Never had this problem before as the pump has always self primed. The yard did the winter services, so perhaps they closed a valve somewhere; but the schematic for the system doesn’t show any other valves. The pump is a Par-Max Plus 82400. Any suggestions welcome.

Regards and thanks,

Be sure to check the strainer at the pump.

Ok. Thanks. Didn’t know there was one. Is it part of the pump or an external device?

Separate, most likely. On my Jabsco pump, it is a quick-connect module. Crude grows in there and blocks the water flow.

There are two valves under the galley sink.  They might be open and the water is flowing into the bilge.

Thanks. I checked that - both closed. Water not flowing to bilge.

I had been advised when I bought the boat moons ago to make sure i open a faucet or two when filling to avoiding a air lock at the faucet.  Not sure if it true or not but do it every time.

All:

I will take this opportunity to introduce myself to the group. Last September, I bought Sundowner (Model year 2011; Hull #2) and changed her name to Prudence. Her home port remains Marina Del Rey, California.

Thank you for all your posts--I've read through almost all and have learned much.

We have had to also take apart the strainer/aerator that is integrated into the faucet handle. We have gotten sediment in that which blocks flow to other sinks. Have you tried the shower, cockpit shower, or head sink? That may help trouble-shoot.

Sounds like air in the lines; close all the sink valves, turn on the breaker for the water pump pressure at the panel, you may hear the pump running, open and close a sink valve to get it going; may have to shut off the water breaker and repeat this a few times, to purge out the air.

We have similar issue each spring after launch

Excellent. Thanks. I’ll try that next week at the boat.

Agree with Mike.  Have had similar situation.  Crud gets stuck in the faucet aerator.  Has happened in head and galley.  Needs to be unscrewed from faucet and cleaned.  Add that to your list of checks.  Good luck!

Found problem and fixed. There was a crack in the plastic top of strainer which let air into the low pressure side of the pump. Put on new cover and problem solved. Thanks to those who provided ideas and help.
